Panorama roof

This dam roof is really getting to me. It all started when everytime i take it in a touchless car wash it leaked where the sunroof switch is, and i know its a high preassure stream of water but if its not happening on my 1990 4Runner so it shouldnt happen with a 2002 X3. So i take it do the dealer and they replace the hole thing. Now that i got it back and went through the car wash again i noticed that it stopped leaking from the front, but when i look at the back, (with the cover open) water is dripping in from the sides where the tracks are and from the back of the roof. Has anyone noticed this and if so is it normal. Please let me know.

Thanks guys.

Cheers.

My X3 is a 2004 and I have never had that problem. I can only imagine how pissed-off you must be.

2005 X3 3.0 no water leak at all...........

cordovar 03-26-2006 11:58 PM

Sorry but its a 2004 X3. You guys have looked with the moon roof cover opened and notice no water coming in from the back of the panorama roof. This is so annoying.

We've had no problems at all with my wife's X3. She takes her car through one of those touchless car washes often... no leaks at all.

Good luck, and keep us updated.

There were problems reported on 2004 models that the drain tube for the panorama roof was getting kinked during assembly causing it to leak. Might get yours checked or replaced. There is a service bulletin out about this.

Quicksilver 03-27-2006 01:17 AM

No leaks here. Wish you the best finding the problem

elijah.vdp 03-27-2006 01:45 PM

2006 X3, washed it twice already and never had a problem...

cordovar 03-27-2006 07:07 PM

when i took it into the dealer they told me they changed the carousel or something like that but didnt mention anything about the drain tube. maybe i will tell the service guy that. It worries me that water lands on the fabric of the roof and it might weakin it. This truck is driving me crazy.

cordovar-

I tried searching for threads about this problem (which I know I've read about) here and at another forum but haven't turned up anything. It was about 2004 models and I know there is a service bulletin out about the problem. Your dealer should be able to look it up. Also the fix should be free. I wouldn't be surprised if it was the drain tube.

Best of luck to you,

well i spoke to the dealer and they said it might be that the glass needs to be adjusted. something about the glass not having enough downward pressure. guess i will have to wait and see.

I believe the problem is with the cassette. Our '04 began to leak with water accumulating in the passenger footwell. First service invoice referred to SIB 54 06 06 and replaced the cassette. Got car back and next day, another pool of water in the passenger footwell. Returned car and service invoice stated that leak was "coming from sealant area of RF drain tube mounting plastic to sunroof cassette". They replaced the cassette a second time.

We've got our fingers crossed on this one.

thats exactly what happened the problem was fixed after installing the second cassette. hopefully everything goes ok with your too.

cheers

Yea, I had to get the casette repleaced too. Had water coming out through the mic, and was not really impressed.

silversurferX3 02-16-2007 09:46 AM

no leaks here..but sometimes it gives me a hard time closing it..but sometimes..

Mcbruges 02-16-2007 03:08 PM

No leaks so far but My roof blew up instead

There must be something with these roofs. On my car the sunroof never leaks but a few weeks ago when driving on a cold day over a mountain pass the main panel of the roof just blew out. There were no cars ahead of me so it was definitely not a rock that flew from in front of me.

The dealership replaced the cassette and so far I'm in luck.

chull 02-18-2007 11:10 PM

Mine leaked too

I took it in to be serviced, and they did not fix it the first time, in fact deleted that from the service ticket.

Brought it back, and they replaced the gasket - took 2 weeks, and the new sunroof was incorrectly installed - the bellows were bent and ripped the first time I opened the roof. And the paint on the roof was cut through to the metal, apparently in the attempt to remove the gasket. And BTW, the roof still leaked (into the rear storage by the radio).

The third trip to the dealer for this problem resulted in a replaced sunroof cassette and a new paint job. All was fixed.

mhainen 02-20-2007 03:15 PM

I have gone through the wash a few times and on the high powered blow dry system I will occassionally get a little spray through the sun roof. No big deal given the power of the dryers.
