Nope, you don't need light truck tires. Most of the OEM tires on X3's and X5's are car tires.

I use my Original Scorpion tires here in Germany as well. They do fine in the snow and grip well on the Autobahn. If anyone has a suggestion for a better tire let me know.

Funny.......I use the OEM Pirelli Scorpions M+S and wished we had winter tires for the snow. The fishtail drama even in slush isn't always wanted or necessary. But they do grip well in the dry and stay quiet, even at 27,400 miles.

last summer i was going every day up to 1600 m to a ski center close by (SEE FOTO) with the stock michellin and i never had a problem strange

snow height from 3cm to 8cm mostly powder but thiw year i am going the michllin x ice

will e46 m3 wheels fit?

I got a set oem 18" m3 wheels with blizzak tires.

will these fit the x3? I am thinking that it may be too wide.

What about Hakkapelitta's on 17s? Winnipeg (Winter-peg) gets frosty cold, lots of snow, lots of ice once snow packs on streets and it can last from November to March. Been thinking, sad as it is, about what to put on for winter as well. '02 X5 3.0 with stock 17s, Hakkas a good choice? then look for nice set of 18s for summer.

That would be a sweet setup. I've spent a few winter seasons in Winnipeg and it doesn't get much more extreme than that (I could talk about "square tires" but nobody on the forum would believe me). Thankfully in Calgary you can count the number of days with snow on the roads on two hands, so the all-seasons suffice, but the Hakkapelitta's would probably be amazing in Winnipeg conditions.

Seeking a dedicated snow tire set for my X3, I find the thread interesting...

I commute during the winter almost daily in the NYC metro area from the Northwest section of NJ...where (thankfully) when it snows it is a good drop these past years...but as I get closer to the coast it is a slushier/rain mix...

So a question to the collective wisdom would be..right now I have the stock rims and tires as supplied by BMW NA ont he 04 X3...

1) Do you have a recommended source for Beater rims for winter driving...? Size? supplier etc...

2) Hakkapelitta's seems interesting as to tread depth and overall agressivness..but how will they holdup based on my driving description listed above...? Is there a better choice..

Any info/thougts/insight would be appreciated....

Buy a dedicated set of snow wheels and tires - sooo much easier than swapping out tires alone. I have done this for 4 BMW's and it works great and is probably cheaper than if/when you kerb one of your summer rims and need to replace it.

Many choices for tires, lot of good recommendations on here and you wont go wrong with any of them - look at tire rack for some side by side reviews

I would like to do this - but I don't want the ugly steel wheels, and I don't want to shell out for BMW alloys.
How do I know if a replica, or any other wheel is the right size - offset for example?
