Paint bumper or not paint

Was after a Sapphire black X3 but dealer switch me to Silver. Now, I am thinking if I should paint the bumper to silver. I want to but my wife said it looks more like a van if bumper painted
I live in a small town and dont have much chance to see a X3 here, not to say a aero kit or painted bumper. What do the you guys prefer as a X3 owner?

Thanks

I'm acutally going to paint my bumpers! I'll let you know what the cost is for parts and labor.

I've heard that the paint won't stick well to the X3's bumper. Instead of painting the standard bumper, why not go for the aero kit? :dunno:
Just my $0.02

Aero Kit = $2,000+
Painting Bumper = $200 - $500

There's MY $0.02! :bounce:

Well when your paint starts peeling off...

You do have a point! But if you're going to paint the bumpers I'm pretty sure that whoever paints the bumpers must prime and prepare the bumper to the actual paint. I don't think that paint will be peeling so easily or at all for that matter.

Well I think that if it works out it will look great! Just be careful who does it, cause if they do a bad job it'll come back to haunt you. Good luck!

MUCHAS GRACIAS! I'm actually going to have it done at a BMW center. I do hope that it works out just fine.

Aero kit is a bit too expensive for me either and it is always hard to find locally. My wife has already said that I spend too much money on the car. Anyway, let me know how your car turn out to be.

I found some pictures for a painted bumper, the color seems abit different from the body color. It appears that the painted bumper is abit dull.

I painted my bumpers, and sides about 6 months ago, still good as new, as long as they prep the bumpers and prime them good, the paint will stick no problem, as for the aero kit, I just got the front bumper for about $500 instead of the whole kit

canadianbattery 05-30-2005 01:34 AM

where to get that front aero for $500? I am out of source here in canada.

MPoWeRMAN 05-30-2005 06:13 PM

you will need:
51-11-0-306-061 front bumper
63-17-6-910-791 right fog lamp
63-17-6-910-792 left fog lamp
51-11-0-305-015 right bracket
51-11-0-305-016 left bracket

I paid $627.71 usd for all those parts, my dealer gave me a discount, good luck!!

What are those # stand for? BMW parts #?

MPoWeRMAN 05-31-2005 09:41 AM

yes, those are BMW part numbers, your dealer should be able to look them up even in Canada
