Push past, it drops a gear, and I rocket off. Not to mention it has been very jerky in the past few weeks around town. And I set off the ABS twice today after that, while stopping at very slow speeds, which has never happened before. I'm going to have them check out the car (and keep it) when I go in for service.......

I took care of my "jerky" 6 sp auto--I traded it in on a '08 Acura TL...I still catch myself feathering the throttle when starting up to stop the jerk--and waiting for the jumpy downshifts..now I just enjoy a auto trans that works right---

I'd be on them, too. I would count the days/trips to the shop carefully, and if applicable, get their cash and swap for the stick if you can live with it in traffic. Its a widespread enough issue that they at least can't pull the "Can't replicate: BS.

good luck!

Oh Lord It's my 2003 325i all over again with the sh*tty transmission, c'mon BMW, why do you keep bringing this crap out? Germans in general, my Treg's tranny sucks!

All this is one of the chief reasons that I will never own a car with an automatic transmission.

The 6 speed manual in my X3 has been flawless and hasn't tried to kill me even once so far.

Another reason to avoid the X3's auto trans.... it's made in France, for crying out loud. I had a '91 Jeep Cherokee that had a (manual) Renault gearbox and clutch. Never again will I (knowlingly) buy a car with French parts.

Regardless of where it is made it should work and BMW should make sure that it does! The French made GM trans works in other vehicles so I think it is a computer program/compatibly problem with BMW not the trans..

Just a note, but the X5's 6-speed auto has no problems at all.

Perhaps on your X5, but this thread (and others) differ.....

Its not just BMW's this happens to. I used to have an Audi A6 S6 Quattro which had a 'learning' gear box ............it was hopeless at times

Same problem

Same situation

Roundabout exit when after a few miles of just dawdling along, just when I needed power .. I hit the gas and got nothing.. devastating and very dangerous

I learned the trick after a while.. if you come up to a roundabout, stab the gas peddle twice at least before you come to rest  dont hold it .. just stab it .. then when you need the power,..and you see your exit :idhitit: , and you'll have your power

I think with all these issues, and overall general disappointment with all the 6ATs on the market today, perhaps we should all go back to the 6-speed manual. :D
