:dunno: I apologize for not showing more detailed steps, pictures order, other steps like drilling, cutting and splices performed, accessing and removal of vents, lid compartment, temp control area and radio. However, you should be able to figured it out based on the pictures shown and other threads in here, if you wish to performed this task yourself.

Thanks for this thread. Excellent write-up.

I am trying to find a GPS solution that fits in the center compartment like the OEM one. I am a costco member and I think that I am going to follow suit and get the nuvi 760 for $350 shipped.

I already have a aux input added to the compartment where I put my mp3 player now.

Have you tried using the gps as a mp3 player with the output going into the aux of the radio?

With the correct type of wiring and connectors you should be able to play mp3 audio from the GPS thru the AUX of your radio system.

This is what I've done to play mp3 audio from the GPS. I've transfer mp3 audio files and into a SD card and I have played it on the Nuvi 760 with the audio coming out via the wireless FM transceiver, with the GPS tunned to a FM frequency not being used by radio stations in the area, and out thru the radio's sound system on the FM band.

I've also put jpeg files on the SD card and view the images on the GPS's screen.

It would be cool if they come out with some type of AUX-TV output to SD card and some how connect it to GPS via the SD card slot and view TV & DVD on the screen. I haven't seen anything like that yet.

I got my Garmin 760 today. And was starting to play around with it's position in the center compartment.

I can't get it to sit low enough on the OEM stand in order to close the lid without having to take it apart first.

Did you buy an aftermarket mount that has a smaller footprint? Any details and pics would be greatly appreciated.

You must remove the rubber mat inside of the compartment. It comes right off. Take the base of the garmin off and you should be able to put it in an angle and see more or less where you will need to cut so you can accomodate the base of the garmin. I have no pics of these steps. Sorry.

Nice mod. It's a great use of the compartment and hides your GPS unit. from thieves. They're the hottest thing going for car burglars.
