Garmin Nuvi 760, 770 & 780 GPS Navigation Models

Has anyone try using these flip up/down base with their GPS Navigation aftermarket garmin nuvi models 760, 770 or 780 on their X3? This is a base made to be used on certain type of Volvo models. Since Nav retrofit kits for BMW X3s are so expensive and are only sold in the european market has anyone consider this for their X3s in North America? It comes with bluetooth and some of the models have an FM transmitter built in so you can make cell-calls using the speakers of your radio system without having the need to tap into the wiring of the speaker system. All you will need is power from the car. It would be cool if it some how can be installed on the compartment where the real BMW Navigation system screen is located on the X3. This will eliminate the need of having to remove it from the base when not using the car, by just flipping down the base and then the lid of the compartment. Here is are some pictures of the base using a 760 garmin nuvi model: http://www.zercustoms.com/photos/Gar...tem-1.jpg.html

There has gotta be a part # for that thing.......I have 2 Garmin nuvi 760's, and I would really like that flipdown thingy.......

My parents have a 780 and I would love something for it to "flip down". When we use it in the X3, I prop the unit up where the normal sat nav would be, under the centre top storage compartment, so it looks like OEM. :p

Why dont you go in to volvo dealer and ask?

Here another link with the part numbers of each item: http://vccs.volvocars.se/accessories...VCC-341649.htm

However, from the looks of it, looks like you have to remove the Garmin unit before you can fold it down. I saw another item, also for Volvos, similar to it on ebay in which you could fold it all the way down without the need to remove the Garmin unit. If I find that item again I'll post it. The other thing is the price that Volvo puts on that type of base. It's ridiculous!!! I called a Volvo dealer yesterday and he quoted me over $600 for just the base (p/n: 31260 658-5). It costs more than what I paid for my Garmin Nuvis 780, which it was only $395 plus shipping charges at www.86photovideo.com.

Here is the link for the installation of the Garmin Nuvi base as applicable to certain Volvo cars. http://vccs.volvocars.se/accessories...turecode=en-GB

Here is an update on that Garmin Nuvi unit. I decided to get the 760 instead. I figured I can survive without the voice recognition and the removable battery pack of the latest model. Costco had a very good deal for $349 on the Garmin Nuvi 760 and I decided to go with it instead of the $1000 and something I would have to pay for the latest model. I also decided not to buy the folding base from Volvo (originally mentioned on this thread), since it wouldn't fit anyway with the lid closed and the GPS installed on it. So I did a little modification to the GPS base and the compartment where the original OEM Nav monitor would be and it worked out pretty good. I can now open the lid and close the lid without having to remove the garmin nuvi 760 from its base.
