This is false.

Just over ayear ago, I put StopTech brakes on all four corners of my X5 and saved over 20lbs of unsprung weight on each corner. The difference in the response to steering, road imperfections, and acceleration are felt by me every day. I can't say that my repeated braking improved, but everything else is awesome.

I should also be clear: I did my X5 because of the similar experience I have had with my E39 540 with StopTechs over the past 10 years. The 540 upgrade was more significant because I do drive it more aggressively than the X5, including the track at times.

But make no mistake: While the improvements brought with a lightweight aluminum hat and caliper might not be as readily realized where most might expect on a street car, the big brake kits were one of the best performance upgrades I've made to either car.

When they first came out Brecht BMW brought one out to Buttonwillow and drove it at speed. One of the veteran instructors and vintage racer also drove it around and was given more than one point by...it's a very capable vehicle.

I know the X5 is very capable...it was a rhetorical question ;) Even for M cars, less than 1% will ever see the track. But I do agree to put the best possible brakes you can afford comment, even if it's only a street driven vehicle
