DIY'ers as hackers in 10 years?! Sign the petition...
My brother just forwarded this to me. What's this world coming to??
https://www.yahoo.com/autos/s/gm- ford-others-want-working-own-car- illegal-160000229.html https://act.eff.org/action/fight-for- your-right-to-repair-your-car |
I don't find it surprising. Not that long ago it was illegal to root/jailbreak/unlock your phone. Big scary cars are much more of a public safety threat than phones.

Links are messed up. Can someone fix them?
|
|
That's a bit Orwellian isn't it?
Thankfully there are still enough DIY'ers here in Aus that it would be political suicide for any Gov't to try and introduce such a thing. |
Going by their justification, this could extend to every other machinery and device since nearly everything is now heavily computerized and software driven. Of course, I don't see any of that happening. Never.
|
That is what companies already have tired/are doing. Only recently has it become legal to modify the software in your phone.
|
Personally I don't see it happening either, but still disgusting that they're trying...
