Everybody reccomends doing them soon after 100K, but you'll be able to hear when your guides wear down and the chain starts slapping them. Should definitely get them done then. I do know of guys that have over 150K on original guides, so I'd say it's a bit of a gamble. Probably depends on what oil was used and at what intervals it was changed. If I had the time and a vehicle to use in the meantime, I'd definitely DIY. It's a big job, tho, and requires patience and perseverance...

The guides are plastic. I don't think brand of oil or how long it has run plays a major role in whether the plastic breaks or not.

It's just ~known~ to break. Like insurance, you either are proactive about it or reactive about it. All varies from owner to owner.

Yes, the guides can break without notice and for the AC issue make sure the dial in-between the front center vents is rotated so it shows 3 blue dots. I work for BMW and get that question all of the time.

Those look great, they should be one of the most updated maps.

@Jsoto, I'd say your correct on the guides, it's a gamble on how long you let them go. Just luck that some people's go longer than others. Definitely smarter to do them while you have the chance!

That's Lenny's old X5, he is a good guy.

Giovanni you may want to get the AC system properly fixed and leak tested.

If you need a recharge of refrigerant there is a leak in the system somewhere, its not like topping off engine oil. Again, be sure that the stratified air dial is also to cold as well.

Yes he's very nice such a smooth sale.

That was I was thinking I don't want to go for the expense of getting refrigerant and that's not the solution. The dial is on the 3 blue dots. That was the first thing I checked
