I would bet tech response 101......"It was broken when the vehicle came in" caused the owner to replace the damaged part.
I spent 15 yrs hearing "this or that" broke from age, or was broken prior to repair (including stripped threads), from dealers/indys/oil change shops. In the past 20 yrs of DIY EVERYTHING on Vipers/ZR1s/BMWs, a total of ZERO item have stripped or broken from age during repairs. Could it be careless techs were screwing stuff up? |
Dkl , I wasn't trying to put the image of me being tight. just wondered if it would cause any "problems" :)

If there was no RED oil pressure light coming on with the broken cap, it was probably sealing OK ... so you should be fine.

You cannot prove it but I was almost 100% sure he did it.Some young guy.

Yes, if it doesn't seal it will cause problems. Replace it so you don't worry about it.

Oil Pressure has absolutely nothing to do with sealing the oil fill hole. From the perspective of oil pressure, you do not even need the valve cover, and the oil pressure will be fine. Oil will spray everywhere and make a huge mess, but the Oil Pressure will be good until it isn't. |
