Coil Spring Question

I have a 2005 X5 with coil spring suspension looking to lift it so:

I was wondering if the HD (Diesel) coil springs are stiffer and taller, or if the X6 coil springs are taller and stiffer, I ask because I had a 03' Baja that I put 05' Baja coil springs on which gave me 1.5"-2" lift, also on my 98' Discovery I put the diesel HD coil spring on and it gave me a 2" lift? If any body can inform me or give me the height of the coil springs it would be appreciated.

Fluid union motorsports in Chicago sells a spacer kit that they will make you although I just managed to fit 285/60r18 Terra grapplers on without a lift

I have talked with them already and they informed me it would be $599 30mm (1 1/8'') lift and I was hoping to get a 50.8mm (2") lift. So if the coil springs are even 25.4mm (1'') taller I can order the spacers equaling 50.8mm (2") total. so this is why I ask hopefully someone will be able to answer.

Look up member SAREK. He has done true off-road build and I believe he did custom lifts because the fluid union ones where to expensive for what they are. His build is fantastic.

i just did this, is it a huge pain in the ass! the fronts are easy, the rear will have you cursing for days! fluid motor union kit is only for air bag equiped x5's. i made the spacers for the front struts, the rear is a work in progress..

I posted it a couple weeks ago but here is no lift 285-60r18Terra grappler g2. I just finished a trip to northern minesota with the vehicle loaded and 1800lbs (three people and gear) still really happy with my choice

Both of the y'alls X5s look good that's the route I'm looking to go but i would like to put 33x12.5r20 if it will work I think with a 2'' lift it would fit but we will see.

Currently looking to do the same, will be stopping by bmw to measure the stock springs and then going to 4 wheel parts so see if they have something larger that will work.

literally just made a post about this in suspension section - i dont have rear air either and figure just a taller spring would do the trick.

the fronts i keep hearing are super easy - just a spacer and i have a CNC router at my shop - Never Done Design House - and i can cut aluminum.

can someone post pics of the spacers they have made?

perhaps with some collective resource we can put together a good "kit"

thanks! thats what i pictured - eager to hear what you find out on the spring thing.

petebmwm 08-10-2015 05:19 PM

The problem you have with the rear springs is the pocket they sit in in the body, you cant get a compressor in there to squeeze the spring in there or you could dismantle the rear suspension, and then try and squish it all back together..or another option is drop the rear subframe and squeeze it all back together. I'm working on another way, but havent had time to see it through because i'm knee deep in rebuilding the s14 in my e30 m3.....
