pusher fan

I know this has been discussed to death, but I'm having problems with it , can some one in simple terms tell me when it should or shouldn't come on
oh fuse is OK

1. when AC on , no fan ,
2. when car creeps up in temp nothing
3 shouldn't it fire up for a few seconds when u start the car up to self test?

basically this fan does nothing :)

scanner shows no errors

Cheers

Steve

What type of scanner are you using? A generic OBD II scanner will not show a fan fault. You need a scanner that is made for a BMW/. I use BMW Scanner 1.4. The fault will show up in the DME module.

Have you checked the 50 amp fuse that controls function of the aux fan?

The variable speed aux fan in your vehicle operates when the coolant reaches 120° C (highest speed), or when the radiator outlet temp sensor reaches its preset input temperature, or when the IHKA panel signals specific AC pressures over the K & CAN buses, and at specific speeds (ie standing still or low speeds in urban traffic w/high ambient temps):

If the fuse is blown, don't bother replacing the fuse until you replace the fan, not unless you want to burn up the wiring harness.

I went out earlier ,
1 . fuse not blown
2. start car fan doesn't move , pre test.
3. car uber hot , temp rising above 1/2 ( thought id fixed this ( 25 degrees outside, fan not working)
4. ac on , recirc on , no fan ,
as I said , this thing just doesn't want to play
oh I was sing bmw scanner 1.4, until I formatted the laptop, now it wont work :(

outlet temperature sensor
hmmmm

The most obvious symptom to me is the pre-test - the fan doesn't move. The fan is a known failure point, there's a better chance the fan has failed than anything else at this stage.

went out this morning when it was cold , no fan spinning , will look for another fan :)
