Possible 4.8is Purchase... Help & Info Request

Okay guys, so I've sold my 4.4i and am eyeballing a 4.8is. I have found that I love the e53 platform but want the "ultimate" example of one. #becauseYOLO. Anyway, need your opinions and, if you live in San Jose, CA, a visit to the dealerhsip to look at the car would be extremely appreciated. I realize this opens me up to being sniped on the vehicle... but I'd really like to have someone check it out before flying out there from Texas and seeing it without at least someone who is familiar with X5's checking it out. We all know the dealership sales guy isn't going to know anything.

Info on vehicle: $14500 2006 4.8is w/ ~91000 miles. Imola red w/ cream beige interior. Cold weather package, nav, tow hitch (unknown if factory), side sills, and the best part Dinan stuff. Unknown if it's a full Stage 2 Dinan... but it has a lot of the gear on it. It looks pretty clean... I don't know what to make of the Beyern roundels on the wheels though, are they reps? Only thing I don't like is the comfort seats. I'd much rather have sport... but what can you do.

Now, I'd much rather buy this type of vehicle straight from an enthusiast with the service and ownership history of the car... but this one popped up and I just don't think there are going to be that many opportunities to buy a Dinan modded X5. Please let me know what I should expect and if you are able to help with seeing the car, or know an independent I could possibly hire to do a PPI on it.

Thanks in advance for any help and info. If it gets sold/sniped I guess it just wasn't meant to be... and the search will continue. :dunno:

the mufflers look incredible and imola is right on the money. i'd do it.

Good God that thing is sexy.

I just discovered while going on a walk yesterday someone in my neighborhood has an Imola 4.8 and as much as I love my black saphire.....there's just something about the imola and blue IS's that just makes your mouth drop!

Good luck!

I'd hit it. Miles are low and has Dinan stuff, along with factory RB's and last model year. All pluses.

Thanks for the well-wishes guys. I just talked to the dealer and he didn't think management would let me put a deposit on it to hold... no matter how sizable the deposit. So it looks like if I want it... I have to buy it sight unseen. :(

Normally I am not a fan of doing that, but I may not have an option in this case. This has everything I want (minus sports seats and maintenance records) plus some very hard and expensive things to find. Heck, it might even be an S2 X5... if there was such a thing.

Will keep this thread updated...

Can't assist with getting it checked out but it seems like a solid deal over all.
You might have better luck in the regional section of bimmerforums with paying someone to take a look. I'm sure there are a few reputable members in SD who would take a look.

La Jolla Independent BMW and All German Auto are both down that way. Maybe the dealer will bring it for a PPI?

That is weird that the dealer wont do a deposit. Everyone I talked to was more than happy to go that route if needed. I wonder why they wont.
