Air flow direction for Mann cabin air filter?
1 Attachment(s)
I'm seeing mixed responses. I've installed as shown in the photo ( air flow down). Is this correct?
|
Upside down. Air enters from the bottom of the plenum.

:iagree: Direction of air flow is toward firewall or " arrow up "

Don't forget to suck out all the leaves and junk out of that cavity BEFORE inserting the filter. You will be surprised how much trash is in there. If you don't clean it out all that stuff before hand, it will just hit the filter as soon as you turn on the HVAC fan. Long attachment for your shop vac which does a nice job next to the console and under seats! |
the way you have it installed is correct.
Air comes from the cowl into the blower. plus it usually doesnt fit in their quite right if you have it the other way. |
What are people talking about it being upside down. He has it correct. Air comes in from the wiper area and goes down.
+1 with jgold. |
Agree with Slick. I have installed it same way 2 weeks ago.

Its very easy. Turn on the blower without the filter in and you'll see and feel the direction the air is pulled from.
x2 on sucking out the junk out of the cavity before installing new filter |
Just saw this video which instructs that the air flow arrow should be pointed upwards so in my photo, I have it upside down. It fit much easier when I re-inserted with arrow pointing up.

To those who think the filter is installed correctly - that air enters from the top and flows down past the filter. I suggest you check your facts.
Air flows in from the plenum UNDERNEATH the filter - that is why all the leaves etc collect in the bottom of the plenum. Air flows UP through the filter, and into the interior ducting. Take the unit apart and check it if you don't believe. On the attached diagram, air flows IN via the grilles (left and right) indicated approximately by No. 14 (for the right hand side of the vehicle). Down via the deflection ducts indicated by no's 5 and 6. This directs the inlet air down from the grilles, UNDERNEATH the filter carrier/plenum roof (no 3). The floor of the plenum (no 1) is where leaves etc collect. Air then flows UP through the filter, into the main plenum (no 3), and out the back through the sealed openings (seals are no 11) into the vehicle interior ducting and heater radiator (etc). |
