Could also be a bad 02 sensor.

Here's a video on determining if the 02 sensor is bad.

Cool - Good info!! Thanks!

I agree with upallnight. Since the lean condition is only on one bank I would be troubleshooting causes that only inpact one bank. High on my list would be the pre cat O2 sensor that the primary function is to contribute to air/fuel ratio. That said, INPA/DIS is capable of showing other codes, such as O2 codes that your handheld scanner may not. Before replacing anything I would have in depth diagnostics done.

I plan to do a full diagnostic with INPA/DIS before I bust out the tools - I just used the handheld because it's a lot faster and will at least let me know if it's something simple or not.

I wasn't immediately suspicious of an O2 sensor being the problem, but it certainly seems plausible.

So I just spent the last couple of hours watching videos about understanding and diagnosing fuel trim problems. Good stuff - mean that. It actually makes a lot of sense the way it works (thanks, upallnight).

So, my question now is this: Do either INPA or DIS have the graphing capabilities discussed in the videos? I know I can view live data and have done that plenty of times, but it seems like the way to get the most out of it is with the graphing. But I don't recall ever seeing that capability (maybe I just wasn't looking for it). Is there a way to do that? Or, is there other diagnostic software that will?

My suggestion of buying an ELM327 bluetooth adapter and downloading the Free version of Torque onto an Android device such as a cellphone or tablet will let you graph short term and long term fuel trim.

I likes the app so much that I brought the Pro version for my tablet. Lot cheaper then buying a Snap On Verus or a Pico Scope.

I just ordered an adapter from Amazon and installed the app. The iOS version of the app says it needs the WiFi adapter. So that's what I ordered.

I'm looking forward to trying it out!

I now own this truck and I'm getting the same code. What was it that fixed the problem. It so annoying seeing the engine light come on. My last x5 gave me no issues like this.
