Interesting, X5. You're brave. I take it was a success?

Hmmmmm that sounds familiar. :thumbup:

Update, over 5k miles now after putting ATP in and getting ready for an oil change. Still no smoke I will be using a bottle with oil changes moving forward, but might only do half a bottle from now on.

@ISlandRoad,

Thanks for the update.

I usually don't believe in "snake oil", but I may believe in this stuff.
I just read the reviews on amazon, great stuff.
I wonder what the secret chemicals are...

Ok, so in my recent oil change I decided to use Valvoline 5w30 full synthetic with maxlife technology that Valvoline says has special seal conditioners that rejuvenate seals within the engine block to help prevent oil leaks and is intended for high mileage vehicles. Holy smokes (no pun intended), my X5 started smoking with a vengeance! Even after a few minutes idle it would smoke when engine is at operating temperature. It was embarrassing, I tell you.

Given the above situation, I had no choice but to do another oil change (keeping the same filter), now using Rotella T6 + 1 bottle ATP + 1 quart Lucas oil stop leak. After a 3 hours drive, the smoke is completely gone! I'm not going to experiment again! I will do a proper fix "when the time is right" :D

Interesting that Maxlife synthetic caused that much smoking with your n62. I have the same engine in my 545i and the blend maxlife stopped my valve cover leak to the point where it just barely sweats. I have the synthetic maxlife in there now and it is just fine.

I wonder if the valve stem seals are so far gone that they need strong seal conditioners from the ATP product to keep them viable enough to not smoke.

Oh yeah. Rotella t6 is an outstanding oil. I run it in my other cars, but am switching them all to Maxlife synthetic to keep my seals going.

Glad to hear everything worked out. My X5 is still smoke free, I have also dropped down to only one bottle of ATP per oil change but I think I can go even less now and do half a bottle.

curious on the long term effects regarding this product in these engines. if i were to put this in my honda i'd be less hesitant but since its a bmw i would love to know before doing so.

Glad I stumbled upon this thread. I'm approaching my next oil change and I'll give this product a try. I too have some blue smoke after idling for a while; I noticed that especially in hot weather.

I tried heavier oils etc, nothing helped.
I'll try Rotella and this additive; hopefully something good will happen lol

I've used ATP-205 on my power steering (weeping hose crimps) - magic! :thumbup:
