Ha no deaths here. My wife just had a baby 3 weeks ago so have been not spending much time in the barn. I did however buy a new set of Square Style 87 Rep's 20x10.5 and wrapped them in a fresh set of 315/35/R20's. It will have the awesome stance than PANZER had on his Black 4.6IS. Also snagged a set of front fender arch add-ons. Setting money aside for BC Racing Suspension and did the Trans Go HD Shift Kit on the 4L80 but have yet to come across a deal on a Billet Torque Converter. Ebay Trans Cooler purchased as well. Snagged a set of used 823 heads and will have LJMS spec me a Turbo Cam. The mounts should only take a weekend to create so sourcing parts has been my main priority the wiring is very similar to the E39 and can retain factory functioning gauges.

Cool!

Kindly share and document your build sir!

Might help us a later-on if we decided to follow your project.

Looking forward for the end result!

Finally a post worth making!

Some quick updates. I did not abandon ship on the project but finally got back at it after a long hiatus. I'm setting up my mounts for a stock pullout lq4/4l80e out of an express van. My specific project will be going Turbo LQ4 so I will be building 2 sets of mounts. There will most likely be a Front Swaybar modification needed but the stock silverado/van oilpan should work with our subframe.

I'd be interested in a set of engine/trans mounts if you were able to make them. Planning on doing the same swap eventually. Doing an LS swap in another car right now, so don't have the room to do any extra additional fabrication work on another car haha.

Ill let you know as soon as I have everything dialed in. We are going to make jigs so we can reproduce them as needed. We will start test fitting aftermarket manifolds as well to make the swap cost minimal for all who wish to make a badass SAV. The problem with the E39 was the headers were a huge cost in the swap and if we could eliminate $1200 off of that an LS swap would be very intriguing in the case of a 4.4 or 4.6/4.8is engine failure.

Cool. I would probably try to go for a top mount twin turbo set up if I had time. Did you have to relocate anything out of the way to fit the engine in there so far?

What are your HP and TQ goals? Will you be making any modifications to the drivetrain?

600-650RWHP on 15-17lbs of boost and 500's on a lower waste gate spring. More power could be had with E85 and higher boost but with a gen 3 LS engine the rods are only so good. I don't feel like pushing it past its limits all day every day. Rear subframe will be removed and boxed in and reinforced. All new Poly bushings and will most likely be putting a 4.4i 3.64 rear end instead of the 3.91 4.6is diff. If I could get a E39 M5 3.15 diff to work and make mounts and modify to run I would. Driveshaft will be a one piece. If that doesn't end up working out a modified 9" will be put in but Im hoping to avoid that due to the $4-5000 conversion cost. Do you have any recommendations for the rear subframe on what you think the weak link is? I know your X5 has had a decent amount of power thrown at it over the years.

Nothing other than the sway bar may be an issue and will need to be modified. The oilpan clears and the front dress clears. I will be running A/C so I wanted the mounts to work with the most generic cheap front dress. Its no fun spending $500-1000 just on a corvette/camaro/CTSV front dress. These were all issues I ran into with the smaller shorter tighter E39 chassis. We are fortunate our X5's have an enormous bay. I will also be finding a way to use the factory automatic shifter with my setup.
