There are lots of brushes and sponges to deep clean. The REAL trick is to vacuum frequently, get all the materials that chew up the leather removed as fast as possible. The driver's side always takes a hit so special attention is required to slow down the wear. One of the tricks I have found with the leather care product is to allow it to set up for 24 hrs then buff off. Temps MUST be warm. If winter just use a portable electric heater to keep things toasty. (70 degrees not 100+!) Apply twice to get the leather super soft. Whatever is not absolved just gets buffed off. Second trick is to do the all the cleaning, do the leather then the vinyl/plastic parts as the vinyl protectant will not absorb into the leather.

Long Life tips: Don't use the seats as a storage space especially those cardboard boxes with staples in the bottom. Clean frequently with the interior cleaner and keep "junior's" and Fido's feet off the back of the chairs. Vacuum weekly and remove all thrash each time you get out of the car. Nothing worse than French fries oil smell.

If done right, the leather care will make your old X5 smell like new leather. That's a good thing!

I have had leather cars since I was a teen and always use Mother's Leather Cleaner and Conditioner. Available at Autozone, Advance Auto Parts or the like for around 9.99 it cleans really well (had grease stain from indy pants on sand leather seats, this took them right out on one pass) and the leather is left cleaned and soft and smelling great.

I spray it and let it soak for a minute or so then clean.

RIGHT ON............

Gentle but firm Orbital with a mild leather cleaner soaked scotchbrite sponge wedged underneath it WORKS WONDERS. The dirt just lifts right off and you should see how much dirt collects as you wipe it after each pass with a tshirt or clean rag. WOW!
