Frankly the Bluetooth is not very good. At least on mine it's not. I got my phone paired and was petty disappointed in the sound quality. So I just use a Jabra speaker instead.

Sound quality? Does that mean volume to high or low...or does it mean that the callers voice is unintelligible as in speaker quality is not good?

I can hear callers clearly...and the system will automatically lower the volume of the radio or other audio that's playing when a call is being made or coming in...then returns to where it was when call ends.

Some have mentioned they needed to adjust the volume level on their smartphones...did you try that?

I finally connected to my Samsung Edge 6. I had to place the phone directly beside the TCU to connect for the first time. Now it will connect only if I hold it around my head in the drivers seat. This must be an antenna issue I assume. Maybe it is buried somewhere and I have to dig it out or run it along the interior or something. Thanks for all the input but It definitely doesn't need a phone from the stone age. It even loaded the phonebook pretty quickly which was nice. Any thoughts on the poor connection, is it the antenna?

Great news...glad yIu got paired. Definitely try to find the BT antenna to see if that is the issue, now

The antenna is behind the cover under the rear window. It seems to be split to the back unit. Either way I hear calls crystal clear but the other person hears a lot of static. Also I have to have the phone near the antenna to minimize the static/ reception. Any thoughts. Is there maybe a bluetooth booster or extender? If I put the phone in the front I lose connection. ..kind of sucks but we are getting there.

The problem is that other person hears you bad??? It means car microphone! If u want stronger signal for antenna take it out from the under cover!

The sound on my end is quiet. And people on the other end of the call say that there's a lot of road noise.

My phone volume is maxed out and the car's volume is turned all the way up. Oddly enough, it's worse with female voices than with deeper male voices. If my wife or mom are using a speaker phone on the other end, forget about it.

I recently got a new iPhone so maybe it's worth trying again. But the Jabra speaker seems to work quite well so it's probably not worth chasing it.

U know...I think microphone is taking sound from var body and outside! U can try just to know is it better or not! Take out microphone from its place and try to talk! I have something with my radio... I have microphone built in in my radio... snd when I am using video reg the microphone records much stronger car body sounds like turning lights or throttle... my voice in video reg is much lower! Same when I am calling I have to speak loud... cause microphone is taking other noises! I was thinking for seperate microphone through usb connecting!
U can check my sound:

What exactly are you getting when paired to your X5? The cellphone is being paired to...? For ...?

gatojurko 01-21-2017 04:32 AM

Paired is not connected!

In my case (2006 X5 4.4)...my cell phone is paired to my X5. When I open my cell phone's BT settings, I see my X5 in the list of paired devices. It says BMW 24133...the digits listed are the last 5 digits of my X5's VIN.

Without any prompting as long as my cell phone is with me inside the X5 (once paired)...when my cell phone receives an incoming call...I hear a "tone" inside the cabin that alerts me to an incoming call. I can then press the "talk" button on the left button pod on the steering wheel to receive the call...or hit the "phone" button on my Nav screen...then proceed to speak with the incoming caller hands free.

If the radio or other audio components are in use...then they are muted and the incoming voice is heard over the audio speakers in the vehicle. My voice is picked up by the microphone located in the panel near the sunroof switch/UGDO buttons. When the incoming (or out going) call if finished...what ever audio component that was playing prior to the call...comes back to its normal setting prior to the call.

I can also make out going calls...hands free if need be, too (see VC info below). I can select the numbers that have been uploaded from my cell phone into the system using the Nav screen TELEPHONE selection (I assume the same can be done with those with MID set-up).

I can also activate VC (voice control) to make a "hands free" call...speaking the numbers or speaking the name I've programmed into the system. It's hands free except for having to press the "talk" button on the left MFL button pod. :D
