Sounds like wrong connection... but not sure! Sounds like connected to something strange...that wire works on position 2 but doesn't when engine running! Try to connect to another reverse light!
|
I tried switching but same issue, I will try to make a better connection tomorrow, need to buy some good connectors first though.
|
How are you triggering the reverse input of the Eonon?
|
^by tapping into the yellow/white (+) and brown (-) wires that go to the reverse light. Under the plastic trim on the lower tail gate.

Interesting read.
I'm about to order either the Eonon GA1556X or the Xtrons PF7553BA as we speak. Haven't really figured out if there's much difference between these units, same pricerange, mostly same hardware/software. Xtrons is Android 5.1 Lollipop, but i guess there shouldn't be a problem updating the Eonon unit..? Trying to get an answer from Xtrons about the 5 m extension cable that Eonon claims i need? (Don't really understand why i need it, doesn't the OEM cable connect to the units17/40 pin cable loom?) I assume you looked into both units before you desided to go for the Eonon unit? May i ask why you choosed Eonon over Xtrons? (I'm asking because i have no idea if they're basicly the same units?) It's a must that the reverse cam works, the missus is, ehhh incapable of backing vehicles :-/ |
^I don't mind at all, I researched all available units out there for a couple of months and settles for the Eonon for a few reasons. 1. I wanted android based, quad core and full HD at a reasonable price. 2. It's very popular among the x5 owners and help would be there should I need it. 3. Proven that it works with DSP equipped Xs and now I can confirm it IS plug and play since they upgraded the unit (Hence the X in the end of the model name). 4. Upgrade and support provided by supplier. To be honest all the other units are pretty much the same, only brand name difference and price, and I looked into ALL.
As for the extended harness, you will need it if your car came with original nav/screen. The radio module which supplies the power would be in the boot and that's where the harness with CAN BUS decoder goes. I have the 40 pin connecter, original nav and dsp so the harness was a must for me. I'm sure I'll get the camera to work properly once I connect it properly, will do that today so I'll keep you posted. Others have got it to work straight away so I know it's not the unit...and i know what you mean with the necessity of it! Haha BMW X5 4.8iS 2005 |
I have the old 4:3 satnav unit, but i assume it's the same set up in the trunk..?
I bought my X5 from a bankruptcy auction, and it looks like the former owner had removed a similar unit and just throwed in the old OEM system. I think i was supposed to have a OEM cd changer, but it's not in the trunk. The nav/cd unit in the trunk doesn't work at all anyway... I'll settle for the Eonon then, easyer to find help if i need it ;-) |
Which camera did you go for?
I see that Xtrons have this one? Products Comparison List - Xtrons | Xtrons |
You should check under the spare tire for the amp/dsp, that's where they should be located. Also, if you're not sure about what connections you have then just two Eonon you have dsp and Nav...they'll send you all the harness you'd need and more (I got a set for each type of system in my box).
The camera I'm using came with the order free of charge, it's not a wireless cam. BMW X5 4.8iS 2005 |
