If u will get aftermarket unit! U will have extra cable the big one! U can install the unit inside your old screen! After that u can throw away old cd changer and navi if u have them! Those cars who has dsp it is just little bit complicated to connect! I do not have dsp so for service it was easy to connect! Now I have space at the trunk in the left for music 'louder' and I will install subwoofer on the right side!

That's what I figured as that's what most do (because it usually works).

You can't trigger the reverse straight off those. You need to install a relay to trigger it. I used the PDC to control it on my last Avin Avant install, but with a relay you can use the reverse light to trigger the relay. See my avin install writeup for details on using the PDC.

^Thanks for the info man, you saved me unnecessary work! So why do I get an image when in key pos 2? I'll look up your work for sure, much appreciated.

Those wires don't always put out 12v if memory serves. It does in pos 2, but fluctuates upon starting the truck. It's plenty to trigger the relay but does not play well with reverse inputs on head units. I was getting the same error on my Avant 2 before using a relay (and then ultimately switching to the PDC controlled circuit).

Just had a look at your work, you are good sir! Very thorough. I would love to do the same but my biggest issue is a garage, I don't have one. It's either on the street or semi-open shared car park for me which isn't ideal if I am going to take out the interior, drill holes etc. Everything I do has to complete on the same day and with minimum affect to my "neighbors". I'll hold off for now until I know I have some place I can leave the car open.

By the way, even though I haven't installed the camera, the screen still switches to rear view mode when I put in reverse, it's just a black screen with a yellow warning sign. Do you know why this happens? Eonon directed me to the Navigation settings for this issue so I don't think they understood me...

If the wire is still hooked up, the unit is sensing that it should go into reverse view. I have not played with an Eonon personally as I went the Avin route, but I'd imagine there is a setting in there to disable the reverse switching. The avin had one.

Thanks for the compliments. OCD is a blessing and a curse. Takes me 3 times longer to do something modification wise than it would take most people. Sometimes that makes for a nicer finished product, sometimes it just makes for a waste of time. lol.

As far as needing a garage, it really helps obviously. I wouldn't be able to do many of the things I do without one. You could run the relay easily off that reverse light output at the back of the truck in a few hours if you wanted since the battery is back there already. The PDC version like I did would take a bit longer... but you've got the hard part done already, the unit is in.

haha I know what you mean....if I had a garage I don't think the car would see the light of day!

I'll see if I can get a hold of a relay and go that route as I can get that running much quicker like you say. As for the reverse input activation, I couldn't find such setting but wasn't banking on anyway nor did i forget any cable plugged in (i think). I'll double check that.

Thanks for your help.

I bought my X5 from a bankruptcy auction, and it looks like the former owner had removed a similar unit and just throwed in the old OEM system.
I think i was supposed to have a OEM cd changer, but it's not in the trunk.
The nav/cd unit in the trunk doesn't work at all anyway...

I'll settle for the Eonon then, easyer to find help if i need it ;-)

I just had a chat with Eonon about the software upgrade and they said it's not possible at the moment. They said they only update if there is an issue with the unit :dunno: Thought you should know.
