You will need to adapt the new throttle body to the potentiometers on the gas pedal. That adaptation procedure has already been posted. I don't think you will need to have it coded.

Update on exhaust leak. Took it to mechanic, he kept it for couple days and couldn't make up his mind on fixing it , saying that he needs to lift the engine and if he had to take the manifold out and break the studs than repair will be a night mare and expensive and advised me to get rid of it and buy a newer car. So I took out the car , sat till 2 am in the morning and bumped in to a video on you tube where the guy was having the same exhaust noise as mine and explains on the comments that all he did is change the o rings on secondary air line and tightened loose bolt. That's what I did too an hour ago. Voiala , no noise , engine works like new)))this video saved me couple thousand and the frustration . Just wanted to share if smbd has the same problem after the timing or vanos Check your secondary air line and replace those 2 O rings just in case ))))

Very rarely do these x5s have exhaust leaks sat the manifold . some other gasket is the problem. glad you found the simpler solution

:thumbup::thumbup:

Great solution to a "tech that knows little but tells you everything is bad". Better known as "in over my head but will not admit it" syndrome.

Good job on pushing further to discover the problem/solution repair.

Can you post a link to the video?

Great that you didn't just accept what the mechanic said and persisted in finding a solution.....well done! That mechanic would probably have offered to buy your X5. There's a valve stem seals thread on here where someone who was given such an advice and the mechanic bought the X5 from him on the cheap- probably the car just needed new csv or vacuum leaks fixed to stop the smoke after idle issue. Whenever a mechanic gives you an horror tale about your car, think twice!
