Can I blame BMW for this?
so, it's always BMWs fault, whatever happens to our cars, right? A month ago, my daughter lost "the" key to her X5. Maybe I lost it, I can't remember if I was the last one to move it or not, but I did drive it that day. so did she. it's been a month. we've looked everywhere. she's been driving with the valet key and hates it. well, "that's what you get for losing the one and only "new" key that I bought just a year ago ($187). I'm not buying another one!" So, Saturday, I break down, and we go to the dealer to buy another key, get it ordered. she's driving home, and I'm looking around and yelling at her that if I'm going to be spending money buying new keys, the least she could do is vacuum the X5 out once and a while. well, long story longer, she found the key under the drivers side mat. turns out her mother "thinks" she might have put it there, because she moved the car in the driveway and was too lazy to put the key back in the house. but she'll admit to nothing.
but at least we have a second programmed key now. any way I can blame BMW for this? other than this issue, it's been an outstanding SUV and my daughter just loves it. in two years, other than the usual issues, I've had no problems with it. |
No doubt about it. BMW should never supply mats that can have keys hidden beneath them. Totally uncalled for and a real problem for owners.

Bad Memory Win.

Clearly a well engineered key would levitate its way back into the house and/or its owners pocket, depending on GPS coordinates.

Well if you had an electronic key with a mobile phone app then you would never had this problem. Eventually physical keys become things of the past and no more lost keys.

Similar story here: I lost a set of keys with X5, wife's Hyundai Tucson, two houses of keys, etc.
Found it under the seat of her car about 20 mins after getting a new double set of keys from the dealer. The dealer 'cancelled' both the lost X key and the remaining X key, so my found set with the X key no longer worked, lol! 68.5 yrs on the fookin planet and that was the first set of car/house/stuff keys I had ever 'lost'...er, misplaced and could not find. :) GL, mD |

I would start with closing all joint accounts and finding a good divorce lawyer.

I found my wife's wedding ring under the floormat years ago after she took it off before teaching a martial arts class! Since she has two black belts, I didn't argue :D
BMW though, clearly has a floormat issue! 2002 X5 3.0 302,500 miles 2014 428i 17,000 miles 2004 325i sold at 123,600 miles 2001 325i sold at 66,000 miles 1970 Firebird Under restoration |
