E53 roof rail delete
Just deleted my roof rails on my 2006 x5. Everything unbolts from the outside.
Once the rails and hardware is off, your left with 10 holes through the body. It takes 8- 11/16 plugs and 2- 5/8 plugs purchased from Lowes, paint to match, put a little silicone on them and pop them in the holes. wipe the excess silicone off and they look factory. Extremely easy. |
well.. well.. well...
|
Thanks, I will add this one to the "things to do" this summer. Have any images or part numbers of the plugs you used from Lowes?

I'd be interested to hear what your MPG increase is after a few weeks of driving with the rails deleted!
|
Don't know if it will help on the mpg but it sure looks kool and low since I dropped the back suspension 3" and the front 2". As soon as I get some pics, I will post.

I would cringe if those were factory implemented roof rack hole caps. Yikes!!!:bustingup |
Know body even knows they're there. All they know is something looks different and much sportier

I must be crazy but I like the roof rails even if I don't use them. Actually I DO use them. I hold onto them as I hand wash/wax the x5 :)

Everything on the x5 looks good. I just like them without the rails to be different.
