Really common misconception there. Install on an Eonon, Dynavin and Avant-garde is very similar and all work with DSP, NAV or standard. Just a matter of running the extension cable for the DSP amps and maybe cutting the bracket for non-Nav systems.

Does anyone know which wire in the Fakra harness acts as the trigger wire for the rear view camera?

There is no "official" trigger wire, so I'm guessing that the Canbus must provide this function because only the video cable comes to the harness and NOT a distinct trigger wire from the backup lights.

My rear camera is functioning fine, however, I'm trying to piggyback a video TPMS system into my rear camera circuit and the TPMS system uses a trigger wire to activate the head unit rear camera video circuit to transmit its TPMS video image.

The TPMS system as I have wired it, transmits the rear camera video just fine but NOT the TPMS video image when activated by the remote or during boot up. I do get the chirp tone on boot up and when activating the remote and the BLUE wire of the TPMS brain receives 12V positive when the TPMS unit is activated.

It seems as though the trigger wire for the TPMS is working but it needs to be used to activate the HU rear camera circuit for which there is NO open/available trigger wire in the harness. This is why I think there is one in the Canbus if it can be identified.

The Orange wire triggers the reversing camera from memory. My canbus module failed under warranty with the symptom of randomly enabling the reversing camera. I initially unplugged the module as rear facing video on the display at speed was disconcerting, until a replacement was supplied.

Thanks Neil but with a little bit of voltmeter sleuthing I determined it is the BROWN wire from the Canbus module and also the BROWN wire embedded in the Fakra cable that is the reverse trigger.

The BLUE wire of the below TPMS unit tapped into the BROWN wire of the Fakra harness (HU rear camera trigger) and my gray wire was connected to ACC power.

I got the TPMS unit functioning great!

The little brain box fits nicely in the driver side cubby on the metal panel that the factory amplifier is mounted onto.

Hi Everyone, new to the forum and new to Bimmer's. Two days ago I purchased an E53 2006 and one of the first things I am considering is changing the audio/nav system for an aftermarket version. So I have been reading though this thread and you would have thought from its title it would have put me off an Eonon or similar unit but strangely enough I am encouraged by the accounts in here, lol.

Anyhow I have a few questions some you gents no doubt will be able to assist me with.

The model E53 I have is the audio/navigation version and looks like it has no DSP - no subwoofer and no DSP in the main menu however it does has the BM54 amp located under the spare wheel. Question is do I need to run cables to the BM54 from the head unit when installing an aftermarket unit ?? If so what is the best cabling route to follow, straight up the middle or up the passenger side and crossover under the front seat or is there a better alternative?

Is the functionality of the BM54 amp re-used with installation of the aftermarket unit ? If so I think I have a problem because the drivers side door speakers don't work at all and I believe it must be a dead channel in the amp.

Lastly is there any recommendations for brand/models ? I know the thread is about Eonon but I have seen Xtrons, Dynavin and others mentioned. I can see on Aliexpress an Eonon 6166X model that comes with the 5m extension cable so is this the latest model? I also see various model of Xtrons available that don't come with a 5m cable. I can also see a Dynavin available in my home country ( NZ) but its nearly three times the cost of the units available from China and seems to be a lower hardware spec than either Eonon or Xtrons. So any advice or pointers in the right direction would be very much appreciated.

One more thing - did anyone have any luck in getting rid of the Eonon logo ?

This is my current next step in the E53. It's under the knife rt now for a new transmission, but when I have regular access to it, I want to run the 6.0 unit and remove the entire DSP system. (I know, I know)

I have an Eonon unit for the E46 ready for install. Oddly, I will change the HU first in the E46 and *then* replace the speakers. I removed the rear speaker grills from the stock HK system. The paper cones were brittle but did not crumble to the touch. I'm anxious to see what we learn from the Eonon install on the E46. I'll use it to shape my plan for the E53.

Of course the E39.. Now THAT just might be the NBT retrofit. :D

Just a note on the speaker - the OEM speakers seem to die easily, so your BM54 amp may be ok and it's just a speaker failure. I have the same issue (left rear door though) and it's definitely a speaker fault. Will replace the speakers one day, once I fix all the other more important niggling issues (currently wheel bearings).

Also, you may have gathered this from your reading but did you know that you will lose the ability to use and reset the built-in fuel consumption, trip meters etc. built in to the OEM MID and Nav displays? They can still be called up on the cluster BC display with the left stalk button but you will not be able to set or reset any values. Just sayin'
