Getting Ready To Pull VANOS

Hey Lads,

Getting set here soon to pull the vanos off my X5 and replace the seals. I have been suffering with running issues which I believe all back up to the vanos unit.

Just wondering, I have seen a lot of vids and writeups on the process annd I am fine with it. Just looking for any gotchas that others may have experienced?

Also,
Is it necessary to put the motor at TDC?
I haven't seen it mentioned anywhere but I want to be sure. When I get to replacing the vanos, is there anything that needs to be placed, calibrated, etc?

TIA
Bernie

Good day!

I haven't done the 3.0L yet, but my M62 and N62 both had timing install kits... Pin the crank, lock the cams, tighten bolts in certain order.... May need to look into that timing tool kit...

Good luck!!

Cheers!!

No need to put the motor at TDC, no need for any special tools, calibration, etc. It's actually a very simple job on the M54.
