The improvements seen with the stock 20s (275/40 tires on 9.5" wheels up front, & 315/35 tires on 10.5" wheels at the rear) are actually a function of both the increased section width of the tire (bigger contact patch) and the lower profile of the tire (stiffer sidewalls). Remember, the bigger wheel is offset by a lower profile tire, such that the overall rolling circumference stays approximately the same...
