N62 owners, steady idle?
My 2004 4.4i engine has a semi rythmic idle.
It is always smooth. Every minute or so, I get a stumble. It's not enough to see on the tachometer, yet you can hear it. It has done this since I have owned it. I have no codes, very good gas mileage, great power. I only get the stumble at idle, don't see or feel it at cruise RPM. Any ideas where to start looking? |

Good day!
I'd venture to think it's a draw on the motor of some kind... A/C compressor kicking on, or even an electrical load making the Alt work harder... something very subtle but constant... I suspect a failing component would throw a code if it happened every minute or so... Just my two cents... Cheers! |
I also have this idle behaviour... I had planned to pull my IVM out and have look at it these days (if it stops raining eventually)...
|
I'll take a look at mine a little closer when I get home... And I was just thinking how incredibly steady the motor seemed while running compared to my 540i... maybe it's there in mine as well, but I just never noticed...
Hmmmmmmm! |

What's IMV.

IVM is Integrated Voltage Module... Simplified just a bunch of relays and fuses: IVM or why my engine runs sluggish??? N62 applies to ALL cars with it. E53/e65/e60/e63/e64/e66 | BMW LOGIC7

You could have a misfire, but every time you shut the engine down, the misfire counters for all the cylinders reset. You need to get a scanner that can provide live data and has a misfire counter for the cylinders. Perhaps the misfire counter never reaches the limit that it will throw a code since you say that the misfire is only at idle.
In order to solve the problem, you need to identify the problem. You don't even know which cylinder is stumbling or misfiring. |
Where is the IVM located?
