Many vehicles now have the full VIN clearly stamped on a metal plate underneath the windscreen....

The access to a VIN does not bother me as the serial numbers are available as open sourced data from any BMW dealership sales/service system. It not like we have Bugattis where the grey market can build one from a jig and end up with some serious $$$$.

C'mon where is the Estoril, I know there has to be at least one on xoutpost. I saw one for sale a few months ago in CA, and I know someone in PA who has one.

I think a lot of these have flipped into the third or fourth owners hands who drive them until death meets up with their lack of maintenance and ownership experience. Buy 'em cheap and drive...... After all they are fully depreciated by now. Residual value only on most of X53 now. Real shame as I love mine.

In the auto world they are called final owners. :rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

Even the 3.0 models with a few tweaks, they look great, run well, and provide a great value for the investment in effort to keep them up and running. But the buying public wants "new" not an old car.

Give it some time and we may see our hard efforts to preserve them might pay off one day :)

Funny you have a car you dont see in stable anymore...20th anniv Maxima...got one myself.

Thanks, yeah, everyone is fine. I locked them up and probably only made contact at 25mph, small doe, but it hit right on the corner. New hood, fender and bumper were going to be just too much for State Farm to deal with.

I found a one owner, '08 3.0si in really good shape locally (full maintenance records, all done at dealership) that I've got a good deal on. I'm going to pick it up for the time being while I keep my eyes open. Alpine White is about the only color I think looks as good as Imola.

You don't wanna go for another v8? Haha maybe even a twin turbo v8 [emoji7]. We have an 08 4.8 and it's monstrous. Looking for 50i until the M's are around 20 haha. Good luck with it though, the 3.0's are nice, they're the "reliable"model you could say.

Sorry to say that I've sold my '04 4.8is, LE56501.
A buyer came along with a wad of cash that I couldn't refuse - she's gone to a good home (another BMW family).
This still leaves me with 3 BMW's to look after, so I'll be kept busy enough.
All the same, I'm going to miss that truck, and this excellent forum.
Have learned a lot from you guys, so thanks and all the best.
Maybe one day I'll weaken and get myself another one!

iS was only made in 4 colors.
If you have white, it's either been resprayed, individual color.
They only came in red, blue, black and silver.
EDIT: I see above white was made for Europe.

Reading his build sheet looks like it was made for a rich Saudi. Individual, Arabic, and Gulf are mentioned. There was a (I think) Brazilian on here with dark (stratus?) Gray. It's neat seeing other colors when they pop up.

Notice my worn out seat. All the rest are like new & plastic was sewn onto all matts by 1st owner

New X5 badge found for $24. On the way to pick it up had a "sudden" stop and roached the vac booster and had passenger rear window drop at the same time!!

Glad I'm paid in nickels and dimes, as that seems to be what makes X5's run :rofl:

FYI - there is a legit Sterling Grey 4.8iS (Canadian Market) vehicle for sale in NJ. I thought about pursuing the vehicle, but I will ultimately pass on it. Looks to be 2-3 owner vehicle, once/currently registered in FL. ~100k miles, cluster still shows KMPH so I assume that'll have to be swapped at some point. Front air suspension is blown out. Comes with a bunch of options (Running Boards, Nav, Heated Steering Wheel, PDC). Interesting color and very rare for being in the US. Vehicle is at US AUTOWHOLESALERS.

I am looking at something more local tomorrow.

I've had a hard time tracking down production numbers by color. Attached is what I could find for all X chassis 03-06. I'm sure it's somewhere buried on the web. I've seen a database before but you'd have to pivot out the 4.8iS then by color.

Looks like 4.8iS started sales in US around April 2004, so almost half way through the year. So yours being an August build doesn't surprise me as one being an Estoril. Just consider yourself lucky to have one in that color :)

pictures! sterling grey is rare for US since its not a US production color

Will see if I can get some. I personally love the color and never seen one in Grey until now. Seen a few Blue lots of Silver had to have this one.
