The oil will take LONGER to get up to working temp if you remove the thermostat. :confused:

Because the coolant takes longer to get up to temp so the oil takes longer too. Stat is closed when cold so engine warms up faster. If you want to run cooler it's better to run a lower temp stat, not leave it out completely.

I kinda feel like the OP. Like I am rescuing this X of ours from the junk yard. LOL. I do love driving it, though.

Agrred, I bought this one from a second hand car dealer.
He mentioned that cars come to his sales lot to die.
Becase if they arent sold there they are scrapped.


I has been fun fixing it, and been reliable so far.
It did run from day one, just needed some repairs.
If something big goes in the future, I will have to think long and hard to see if I spend the money to fix it.
If it is the case, then lots of money will need spending, like respray etc.
Lets see when that day arrives.


Either dead car or fuel gets way to expensive, which might be soon the way politics is going.

Driving down the hill slowly, I put on brakes to slow down at the bottom, and a cyclic grinding noise came from under the middle of the car.
I suspect it might be a transfer case.


Any Ideas?

Splines on the front driveshaft? These usually fail under power but I guess they might do the same thing under engine-braking. :dunno:
