'06 4.8L - assistance with codes

According to our non-Euro car shop, my wife's '06 4.8L X5 is showing the following codes:

2B70 - DISA
2B71 - Failure DISA
2B72 - DISA Temp Warning

The code descriptions come from an online search, not the shop.

The plot thickens when I tried to source a replacement DISA valve - evidently it's a 6 cylinder only part and not found on BMW's V8's.

Thoughts on what might be wrong and how I can run this down? We are remote from a dealer - about 3-1/2 hour drive away - so would like to consider that the option of last resort.

Thank you.

BTW - original diagnosis was "Fuel Injection Pressure Regulator" - which has been replaced. Initially running fine but starting to bog again.

If they are a non Euro shop what did they use to pull the code?

Connect a fuel pressure gauge at the fuel rail and see what type of pressure you have with KOEO (key on engine off) and with the engine running. Might not have been a bad regulator, but a bad fuel pump.

Your engine doesn't have a DISA valve because it has enough torque in it already.

upallnight - thank you for the suggestions. I've got a call in to determine what kind of code reader the shop uses - assume it's something generic - but will for sure suggest a pressure test for the fuel pump. Thanks again.

upallnight - you were right - new fuel pump on its way - thank you! BTW - any suggestion for good code reader for X5? Thanks again.

X5 in Alaska especially 4.8is has to be quite the sight. How does it behave during your winters?

It's spent its whole life in AK - previous owner bought new from dealer in Anchorage. 4.8L is a beast. It's loaded - we have yet to encounter an option it does not have. LOVE the heated seats and especially the heated steering wheel. Rear seats are heated as well. We are Bimmer people, though somehow the wife ended up with a Mazda SUV prior to the X5 - zero comparison. We run studs in the winter though likely unnecessary - however winter tires a must when it's -20 deg F (standard all weather tires are hockey pucks at that temp). We did away with the height adj air suspension though - started with sensor failures, then one of the fronts went - it's all conventional struts/springs now. Gas is expensive here (think CA prices) but wife's commute is short, so no biggee. Bit of a love/hate for me - love the performance, but taking care of it is a b*tch.

Wow! This is a good buy.

Not bad with different software/s already loaded/running and with warranty on hardware.

I've spent more on mine due to higher laptop specs....

If the seller can include/upgrade with ISTA-p....then you're set.
