I think you are about to make one of the classic DIYer mistakes. The most costly DIY approach to fixing a problem is buying parts until you find the one that is the problem. I would certainly do more troubleshooting.
If it runs and sounds normal other than missing I would clear the codes and see what returns. You could try cleaning the MAF with MAF sensor cleaner first. When a MAF is bad sometimes it causes a roaring sound, engine runs rough and engine won't rev properly. However, since you don't know how many miles on the MAF it is not unreasonable to purchase a new one since they do have a life cycle of about 60,000 miles. Doesn't sound like vacuum leak to me but to others it might. Best way to check for vacuum leak is a smoke test but spraying carb cleaner around potential vacuum leak areas such as intake manifold is another way to find vacuum leak. The carb cleaner will cause the idle to increase when you spray the vacuum leak. |
I've tried the MAF cleaner to no avail. I haven't tried to find the vacuum leak as yet, doing that today. Here's a video that I took of the vehicle running. My intention was to check on the timing chain guides to make sure the timing chain wasn't the issue, spraying oil all over the place. I'm willing to make repairs to get it running, I just need a starting point. So I'll do the vacuum leak test BCREDLINER suggested and go from there. For full disclosure, here's the list of things I've done.

I would certainly not drive it and would not run the engine. I suggest pulling the lower oil pan and check for debris. My be some by just draining the oil be big pieces will stay in the pan. |
Just drained the oil and changed the filter. Saw no debris, taking off the oil pan tomorrow evening.
