2001 x5 4.4 oil dip stick o ring

Hi All,

I just replaced the timing guides and chains (big job) and had an oil leak (I damaged the upper oil pan gasket). I had to replace upper oil pan gasket. A friend of mine help and he took out the dip stick tube. I saw an o ring on the floor but I did not put the o ring on the floor with the o ring from the dip stick tube. Last night I finally got it all back together, add oil and it's leaking. Its coming from the dip stick tube there is no o ring oil.

Any instructions on how to replace this o ring?

Thanks in advance

Good day!!

I'm not positive I understand the question!! On the 99-03, there is only one O-ring for the oil dipstick tube... At the top of the oil pan on the pass side, towards the front... You need to take that 10mm nut off and the hold down fork comes off... Pull the tube up just about an inch or two... Slide the new (or original) O-ring on the end of the tube and reinstall tube in oil pan... Replace fork and tighten nut down... There is a code on the hold down fork... Three letters..... T.O.P..... Make sure you can read that when it's installed... It works better when you can see the code...

Good luck!!

Cheers!!

Williamx5 you are the man. I am having a hard time getting the tube out. I have supported the engine and dropped the subframe. I have the 10mm and the bracket off and the tube is up about 1 1/5 inch, still won't come out. By the way, I used your writeup on upper oil pan gasket (it was hard) but after I had everything bottom up it was leaking oil. I damaged the upper oil pan gasket, replacing the timing chain and guides (another big job). I just want my truck back.

Excellent!! I hope that write-up worked okay!! Clear and precise...

I would say the tube is hanging up on something... Exhaust maybe... can you twist it at all... Maybe push it back down into the pan a hair and turn the tube... It might be a tight fit, but it should come up and out without TOO much trouble...

I know what you mean by wanting the truck back!! I've been trying to snap my fingers with the 6MT conversion so it will magically get done, but that hasn't worked yet...

Cheers!!

When removing the dipstick tube, it really helps if you remove bank 1 vanos sollenoid, as you need to turn the tube a bit. The tube has a tight fit trough the hole in the ac bracket. Good luck [emoji1][emoji106]
