Do I have the Sport package???

I have been looking online for tires and most pages ask if I have the Sport Package on my 2002 X5 3.0.

How do I tell if I do have this?

Thanks

What size tires are now on the X5? If they are 17 you do not have the sport package. If you have a 3.0 with 18 tires you may have the sport package if a PO didn't swap out the rims to 18.

Just go to the website and input your vin and see what was the original SAV came with.

I have 255/55 R18 now. I am wanting to know now for the tires but it may come up for other reasons in the future.
I have the exterior anthracite molding and black interior headliner and I read somewhere that could mean I have the sport package but not sure.

:dunno:

The stock tire package is 17s, if you have 18s or 19s, then you are on the way to having the Sports Package. The problem with this as the deciding factor is, one can upgrade from 17 to 18 or 19 reasonably cheaply.

The seats of the Sports Package are an upgrade that is a bit more costly to do. If yo have the thigh supports -- the section that slides from your thigh to your knee -- then this is a good sign. Lots of people will upgrade the tire size, not many will swap the seats.

2 ways you can tell,

1. there is a section here that tells you the features you have if you have or not
2. The sport tires are the bigger ones (as mentioned above) and they are the star shaped ones and the tires are a bit wider (not as wide as the ones on the E70) AND you have the clear signal indicators on the front and rear lamps

This is the answer that most agrees with my understanding. My '01 3.0i was originally thought to be a sport version because it had the 19" wheels that came with the 4.4 that year. Turns out that's the only sporty aspect to my truck.

The seats is a good clue. Basically, if the bottom part of the seat that your butt and thighs sit on is one piece, it is not a sport seat. If it is two parts so it can adjust forward to accommodate longer/shorter thighs, that indicates sport.

As far as actual suspension components, I think it is only the struts that are different. Not sure about springs. Pretty sure all the control arms, etc. are the same for sport/not.

Also, the sport steering wheel is 3-spoke, vs. 4 for non-sport. But as with the wheels, that's a fairly easy swap.

LOL, after all that I just re-read your original question. The tire site is just assuming you're clueless and would know if you've got sport/not rather than knowing the size of your wheels or the tire size you're looking for.

So if that's what you need this info for, sport/not does not matter at all, since it is so easy and common to put 19" wheels on a non-sport version. All that matters is what size wheels/tires you have/want.

It took a re-read to understand the OP's question...it does not matter about the 'Sport Pkg' part; it does matter what size wheels are currently on your X, and what size wheels you intend to keep/use/run.

Fwiw, our '01 3.0 was/is a Sport and came with 18" style 69s.
I have run 17" style 57s with snows, and for the past 10 years it has 19" Style 132s.

Hellsbells, there are old E53 X5s running 20" Style 187s, or even larger aftermkt wheels.

If you are re-tiring your current wheels, the wheel size will determine the nominal tire size, then pick your brand and poison.

I had a 2002 w/sport. Pretty sure the wheel diameter is larger than a non-sport. If you have a spare in the back, check that wheel as it is likely a stock, smaller wheel as the sport wheel/tire will not fit. Hope this helps.

Good day!

What is the last seven of your VIN? Put that here: bimmer.work : VIN Decoder for BMW

Answer the human riddle and it will tell you if you have a sport vehicle...

Cheers!!

Ditto...why are we still guessing at this. It was suggested near the top of the thread to do a VIN decode.

Click the link above to one of the VIN decoding sites, enter the last 7 digits of your VIN...then scroll down the option code list and look for option code P330:

  • P330 Sports package ***
  • S255 Sports leather steering wheel
  • S775 Headlining anthracite
  • S226 Sports suspension settings

One cannot tell by the tire/wheel package alone if the vehicle has the sport package or not. Sport tires are bigger, but anybody can put 19s on a car that came with 17s. And, there are multiple styles of wheels in each of the available sizes, so it is inaccurate to state that they are star shaped.

If the car comes with a 255/60x17, and one wishes to mount 19s and have the same foot print and diameter, then a 255/50x19 is the fitment to go for. For each inch of increase in rim diameter, reduce the aspect ratio by 5 if you are keeping the same width. This will give you a tire that has the same overall diameter as the original fitment.

A 255/60x17 gives a tire that is 29.047 inches in overall diameter, a 255/50x19 gives a tire that's 29.039 inches in overall diameter. You can do your own math, 255 x 0.6 = 153 mm (one sidewall from the rim to the tread), 153 x 2 = 306, (add in the sidewall from the rim to the opposite tread), 306 / 25.4 = 12.047 (convert millimeters to inches), and finally, 12.047 + 17 = 29.047 (the diameter of the tire). Change the numbers as is appropriate to reflect reality. Once you find the diameter of the factory fitment, you can add inches to the rims and reduce the aspect ratio as needed. You can also add to the width, 255 becomes 275, for example, and then reduce the aspect ratio again to find a size that gives an overall diameter of the target. Of course, you can go to tirerack.com and use the comparison guide then provide.

(I pulled a random tire size out of my a$$ to illustrate the point, do not take the size as a recommendation, or a suggestion that it is the right size.)

Yes thats the first place I looked. All the images are dead.
And the signals and taillights are one of the first things people change out.

Well Bimmer.work shows that I have the sport package but some here say if I don't have the
sport seats that adjust then mine isn't a sport model. Where it shows options at the bottom everything
else it has listed is correct and the 330 is there too.

Thanks

Sport Seats was a different option besides the sport package. Sport package just referred to options like the suspension, steering wheel, wheel option, trim option such as clear corners. Not all X that came with the sport package had the sport seats. Mine seat were power for the driver but manual for the passenger. I swap out a set of comfort seats for my Sport Package X because Mrs. Upallnight missed the heated seats that were in our Audi Avant.

Really!? Sport Seats are not included in the Sport Package? That's chaos. I get that sport seats can be an option in a mere mortal of an X5, but the sport package should have the wheels and the seats, along with the springs and such.

CrazyOneToo 07-14-2017 12:17 AM

Yeah that would sound right but its about the cash.
And every option they can add separately is more for the total price.
