2005 Sunroof flood now battery drain.
2005 3.0L with bluetooth and nav.
Massive rain flooded the drivers floorboard. Came here to find out its a common problem with the drain tubes. And my was kinked. Pulled the carpet out dried everthing as best as possible. No water present in rear of the vehicle. Now i have a parasitic battery drain. It lasts about 4 cranks then nothing the only response from the key is: Click Flashing Headlights 3 beeps the fuel gauge is empty with the light on (fuel is full) 4x4 light on. The Alternator was replaced 3 months ago and tests fine. The Battery also passed the long test at oreillys. (5yr old autocraft gold) Ive tried the amp test which killed two craftsman multimeters 10amp fuse. Now using a harborfreight 20amp meter. (Which keeps timing out after 5min) The Park shift light will go off after 15min. In x5 sleep/wake mode Reading 1.77A for the first min then 0.39A until the meter kicks off. Awake mode= 2.7A with glove box light (.3A difference off/on) Sleep mode = .11A sleep mode +15min = 0.0A~ .01A Sleep mode +20min = 0.5A Sleep mode +22min= 0.01A Fully charged, X5 is stationary, 5 hours later only 10.5v Pulled fuse 74/75 to see what happens. The battery charger sounded like it got a boost when I did that. (Awake mode) What now? |
Check your radio in the boot beside the battery (lift the black plastic cover). It is likely/possible that the compartment has flooded causing a short in the radio (remove and dry out). Also try and have a look under the left hand tail light (as you look into the car) for any water ingress.

I checked the rear. It had no evidence of water

Make sure the battery is fully charged and leave fuse 74 out. Watch the shift indicators lights throughout the day without opening any doors and see if the system stays asleep. Mine was the telematics control unit and the system would go to sleep and then randomly wake up and drain my battery throughout the night. Another possibility is the final stage resistor but without any odd inside fan operation, it may not be the culprit.

I'll keep an eye on the shift light today.
I left the 2A charger on it all night. It turns off when fully charged. During the 2min .5A draw the shift light was off. I read others had issues with the TCU when alternators would die. |
Yep. I'm not sure when my TCU died but I did have an alternator failure.

I never use the Bluetooth, could i just remove the tcu and put the fuse 74 back in?

On my 2004, fuse 74 controlled:
There is another member on here, (Qsilver7) that really know his stuff on this. He may chime in or you can PM him. He was incredibly helpful to me. |
Thank you. I'll leave 74 out and put 75 back in.
The Wife was not excited about possibly losing her radio. Park light has been off all morning |
Went through the exact same thing 3 or 4 years ago. My wife was not excited about a dead battery every other day. LOL.
