No passenger door control from central locking or drivers window switch

So, how does this darned thing work? The passenger side window control switch will operate the window. The driver side control does not operate the passenger window or the mirror. Central locking does not work on passenger lock.
I read the switch units are not just switches, but control the door functions. Do I replace the passenger box, or the drivers side box? Is the a connector I need to peruse?

Thanks,
Jim

You are pressing it more than once right? I know on mine the first press is the drivers door and the second press gets the other doors.

I have a driver door module I just took out of my 2004 X5 if you want to try it. It pops right out and would take 30 seconds to see if that's what it needs.

Only referring to the actual physical switches on the doors. Do I understand correctly that the switch housing are actually control modules?

Yep, they are rather large if you pop yours out. 3 multipin connectors for mirrors and windows.

Argh! If these things didn't drive like a sports sedan.... I guess replacing modules is better than running down 10 miles of wire though!

Overboost, Thanks for the offer. I believe I will try the passenger module first, though.

Thanks for the info guys! Much appreciated.

I'm confused. I thought you said your passenger side switch operated the passenger window but the drivers side swich did not operate the passenger window. Why would you want to replace the one that's working?

I'm thinking it is the pass through circuits as nothing on the door operates from external input including the lock actuator and mirror.

I had an identical issue where the passenger door window could be operated from the door but the door lock, window and mirro could not be operated from the drivers side or central lock.

After swapping switches on both doors and still having issues I took apart the harness in the door jam to find that a single pin had corroded off. I rigged a quick splice to test the theory and sure enough this single ping impacted all three functions.

That said I’m in the Sierras so we are fairly arid but some car wash or ice melt fluid must have been bathing this area. The pin itself is slimmer than a toothpick so it isn’t robust enough to deal with much.

Hope this helps the troubleshooting process

The central locking and door control modules (PM-SB/BT & PM-SB/FT) communicate over the P-bus. So an understanding of the P-bus and it's major control module (the GM) may be helpful in understanding how the data/commands travel. You can also do a search on the BMW TIS website...try typing in the last 7 digits of your VIN...then use the search box to help find what you're looking for: https://www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/

You can get a lot of info like pin-out and wiring diagrams for the aforementioned modules on the TIS website. ;)
