Pre facelift 2003 conversion to facelift Got the headlights
Hi,
I have managed to get some e53 xenon facelift headlights new for a decent price. I always loved the facelift look and I am going for the convertion. First thing that I have noticed is that the facelift headlights have a xenon starter input like the newer headlights this means that i need to buy new starters. Or is the starter from pre facelift usable by rewiring , connector etc. And the car needs rewiring have any one done this ? What is the smart way to do this ? I will post the progress thank u All https://i.imgur.com/x5elRgk.jpg |
Can't say what you would need when we don't know what you have. :)
You are starting with which headlight set-up (halogen, HID/xenon)? And you're wanting to upgrade to what (halogen, HID/xenon, adaptive bi-xenon)? Do they fit into the body of the pre-facelift without modification? |
personally, i liked the pre-facelift front lights better than the face-lifted ones. From looking at the front of the 99-03 and the 04-06 models the front is about the same. Good Luck

Ummm...errrr.
Ur going to need a new bumper for sure. Not thinking too much , but I think a new hood and even side panels to fit the facelift onto a PRE... And or great bodywork skills..... |
I have a pre Xenon lights and the facelift lights are bi-xenon
If my understanding is correct I just need to rewire the bi-xenon headlights no aditional module ? Or change the frm / zgw ? And yes i will need the hood, sidevenders and bumper for the convertion. |

That's what I was thinking too. Fenders for sure. This is not something you do just by replacing the headlamps. |
Do you know the pin order for the wiring to lcm ?
And I did not understand what u mean by : your high beams will be halogen an bi-xenon. |

What pin number did u use on the lcm ?
My car has allredy have xenon lights. U still think it needs programming / coding for oem fitment ? |

The LCM has to be set for halogen or bi-xenon. I don't know why, but I have the programming equipment and I remember seeing the LCM Settings where you have to change from halogen to bi-xenon.
You have to be committed to doing this project because the bi-xenon lights need the aiming mechanism that you don't have, and the facelift change will require lots of changed sheet metal. |
Just for the record, my car has bi-xenon lights that operate as high bean WITH the inner halogen on at the same time (in high beam)... so it can be wired/programmed that way. Pulling the stalk does the flash-to-pass, pushing activates the shutters and turns on the halogens.
Add the fog lights to this and you can toast marshmallows... ! :-) |
