2001 4.4i auto transmission problem
On level ground, at light throttle settings, the X5 seems to hesitate. It actually feels like it is shifting in and out of overdrive.
If I put it in manual mode and keep it in 1-4th gear, the transmission works great and the "hesitation" seems to disappear. The tranny doesn't seem to slip or shift funny, other than the problem I described. Has anyone experienced anything similar? It only has ~110k miles on it. |
Could be the torque converter lock-up clutch playing up. The total piston stroke is only around 1mm so it is very sensitive to wear of the friction plate. Do you detect any vibration at all (sometimes sounds like you're driving over a cattle grid)?

No, I've never really noticed any other symptom the transmission was having a problem.

there's a transmission reset procedure you can do. helped me with my 4.4 for a little while but i eventually needed it rebuilt and sounds like you will too. i think my torque converter wore out and then it messed up the clutch plates in the main trans.
if i find that info, or if you find that info let's post it back here to help future people. |
The tranny reset seems to be directed towards changing how hard or how soft it shifts...

The transmission reset is a myth - it does nothing.
Well, almost nothing. It DOES force the transmission into sport mode - for that drive cycle only. This can make the transmission feel like it is behaving differently (because it is) but it goes back to normal mode once you turn the ignition off. See this thread... https://xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-forums/...set-4-4-a.html And here's some great info from Qsilver7 here about the various transmission modes... https://xoutpost.com/1003096-post10.html HTH... |
Anyone else have any input?
