You need a apple airport express router. If you hunt around you can buy one for $20 on eBay. I bought a near brand new one for $20. Then you need an auxiliary source. You can tap an auxiliary from the radio or in my case, the car used to have a usaspec player/charger which blew its charging circuit. They wanted $100 something bucks to fix it and there was no way I was doing that. So instead I ran the auxiliary to the airport express which connect directly in the back. I opened the airport express and removed the original ac to dc converter. I soldered in a dc 12v to dc 5.5v buck converter and wired it to a relay that turns on with ignition. Once that’s done, you connect and set the WiFi settings in your iPhone to not use internet on that network. So when your playing music or even if you wish to talk on the phone everything is routed thru the airport express and over to your stereo.

A more expensive option is the Mediabridge. Offers BT, Aux, USB. Sirius is also an optional accessory. Used one for many years, never a problem. Have DSP. If you intend to keep your X5 for some time suggest you take a look at state of the art aftermarket units. They offer much more and if Android based you can download your favorite phone apps. If you use navigation you can choose several of the aftermarket options that you can keep up to date.

+1 … and those Android units look very OEM, as if the car came from factory with it.

NONE.

I went with a Grom unit to get bluetooth so that I could answer and make phone call as well as stream music to the original head unit. My X came with DSP.

I want to add AD2P Bluetooth only to mine. I am happy with the factory Bluetooth module for phone calls so I only want to add the streaming AD2P protocol. Also, I am android and she is Apple so I am looking for a solution that will adopt both OS systems depending on which one of us is driving.

Does anyone know if such a solution exists? :dunno:

A few posts up someone mentions the Grom unit. It replaces the CD player for BT streaming capability.

Yes but it also does hands free calling and I already have all that working fine. Maybe it can be disabled?

https://gromaudio.co.uk/bmw-mini-rov...n-kit-846.html I’ve asked about this as well. It says “Bluetooth streaming and hand free *optional” but can just the phone feature be turned off? Seems like a solid option.

Mediabridge seems like a reasonable alternative. AudioVox made one for the our car, but I believe they stopped making them. My X came equipped with Sirius, but the subscription is expired. I tried calling to get it activated, but I didn't have the account or unit number they asked for. Anyone know where I can find that?

BTW, this thread blew up nicely. I'm glad it helped get people talking and sharing personal options.

I believe in Sirius mode you can hold down the SAT button for 3 seconds and it will display.

I have a Dice Media bridge module and a Dice DSP adapter that I had taken out a few years ago because it uses the apple 30 pin cable which is no longer on any iPhone product since iPhone introduced the Lightning Cable. It does however have a 3.5mm aux plug so I am going to try one of these Bluetooth receivers from China and see if I can make it work for streaming. I will have full IBus integration with the Dice unit so all factory controls should work. I am just unsure how the changing of tracks will work through the 3.5mm input.
