OH NO THE GEAR WHEEL...
My X5,'01, 3.0 has 240,000 plus miles and has been a solid performer. But in the last month the little Gear Wheel has come on and the tranny continued to work and shift albeit a little herky jerky. But if I switch to DIY sport shift mode it shifts fine. Next time I started it up, no g.wheel. It is the original tranny and it is pampered, filter/fluid changes every 60K. No joke. I am comfortable with the SES light coming on and going off now and then because it doesn't effect the vehicle performance. What about this gear wheel? What repair should I be planning for? Can I repair it? Is it an expensive DIY? Thanks for clarifying. :dunno:

The short answer is you need to pull the fault codes in the transmission module & post them on here for anyone to be able to assist you further. Otherwise we’d all just be guessing

Where is it? What's the best scanner to buy for this?
I just bought another BMW, its the 06, E46, 330CI, with unbelievable low miles. SO now I need to buy an OBDII system to analize things like this gear wheel. So, what's the best for the money. If I need a PC I can pick one up cheap. Ideas?
Thanks. |

I have both and use them both on my E53 and E46  |
What?
BMW Standard Tools (INPA, NCS Expert, WinKFP) is this all one package? It attaches to my PC? Then I download the software for scanning, etc.? This techno side of auto mechanics is rather new. Thanks for your patience.

Making sense of INPA, EDIABAS, NCSExpert, NCS Dummies, DIS/GT1, EasyDIS, & Progman - Bimmerfest - BMW Forums You can trade the coffee for something stronger once you have read the whole shebang.... ;) |
