Hmm I may have to look into that. My factory Bluetooth unit is one of the Everest ones that is not functional for phones.

The current kinivo setup fritz out sometimes. When I go to switch to my aux cable, the head unit will act as if it doesn’t even exist, going from FM to “no disc” back to FM. If i fiddle with the cable and aux in, it will read it for a few seconds, the go straight to FM and not even read that the here is an aux cable....bizarre, not sure if I need another cable in the system?

I replaced my old non Bluetooth TCU with one from a 2006 and everything works perfect. Voice controls, contact lists, etc. The Bovee is another Bluetooth frequency I use for streaming only so I have 2 Bluetooth frequencies running at the same time. One for factory phone system and one for streaming. We can stream XM radio from the XM phone app, books on tape, YouTube, music library or any audio from the phone streams perfectly.

Overboost, can you explain the procedure for replacing your TCU? I've got a 2005 E53 4.8 (build date 09/2004 so very similar to yours).

My car is already wired for telephone and has one of those mid 1990s "car phone" setups.

I just replaced the TCU with a unit from a 2006. It was a simple plug and play swap. Once installed, just pair with phone and off to the races.

One of our members Qsilver7 helped me when I needed to find the correct module build date.

Where did you source your unit from? eBay? Mind sharing the part number?

Here is the unit I bought off eBay. Cost was around $50 USD shipped but may be a little more down under.

Will this one do the job? https://www.ebay.com/itm/OEM-06-11-B...cAAOSwhvFZDkrg

Edit - a newer one too https://www.ebay.com/itm/BMW-X5-2006...UAAOSwWHBaRKoq

I'm not sure what will work on your mobile over there. Qsilver7 provided me with this document showing CDMA Bluetooth modules with old and superceded part numbers. As far as I know, any module built after 10/04 you should be good.

Well the same one that works for you should work for me right? I mean bluetooth is the same worldwide - its just that the CDMA frequencies may be different but there are no CDMA providers here (haven't been for some years now).

Yikes - look at the "tide mark" on that one. It's been sitting partially submerged in a flooded boot (trunk) space for a bit. Don't bother.... :yikes:
