ABS sensor wires broken
Hi...Anyone familiar with the wires between DSC control unit and left rear wheel speed sensor. I google a lot but get nothing. I used INPA and get three codes.
One of them is Speed Switch Rear Left Line Interruption (code 30 Drehzahlfuehler hinten links Leitungsunterbrechung). I removed left rear side trim in cargo area to try to find the broken line and also replaced the speed sensor terminal plug. The pics will be in the following post. Thanks in advance! Here copy the original codes: Date: 09/28/18 12:04:58 ECU: DSC57 JobStatus: OKAY Variant: DSC57 ------------------------------------------------------------- RESULT: 3 errors in error memory ! ------------------------------------------------------------- 81 Druck Sensor Leitungsunterbrechung Error frequency : 255 Fahrzeuggeschwindigkeit 2.75 km/h ASC nicht passiv geschaltet ABS-Regelung passiv BLS nicht betaetigt ASC-Regelung passiv ACB passiv HBA passiv ECD passiv HDC passiv ------------------------------------------------------------- 30 Drehzahlfuehler hinten links Leitungsunterbrechung Error frequency : 255 Fahrzeuggeschwindigkeit 2.75 km/h ASC passiv geschaltet ABS-Regelung passiv BLS nicht betaetigt ASC-Regelung passiv ACB passiv HBA passiv ECD passiv HDC passiv ------------------------------------------------------------- 88 Vorlade Pumpe Error frequency : 255 Fahrzeuggeschwindigkeit 2.75 km/h ASC passiv geschaltet ABS-Regelung passiv BLS nicht betaetigt ASC-Regelung passiv ACB passiv HBA passiv E R R O R M E MORY REPORT ------------------------------------- ECD passiv HDC passiv ================================================= ============ |
Yes. Redid the connector on one recently while diag abs issues.
Dry rot I suppose.... |

Here attached the pics.
And I noticed two terminals without connecting wires. I know it might not be relating with ABS things. But I really want to know what is that for. Any comments are Welcome. |
Help us help you better...remember to give vehicle details like model/model year/build date. There are multiple changes that occurred during the production run...so in order to get the best suggestions/recommendations/answers/etc...having the correct vehicle model/mode year/build date/etc helps us give you the correct information. Without it, you may get information that doesn't pertain to your vehicle due to changes. :)
FWIW...the stuff behind the left panels in the cargo area are audio and telecommunication components. So the wiring harness you're asking about (and pictured in the last 4 pics above) are probably related to one of those components. And it also looks like there's a lot of audio/telecommunication components missing or not optioned. Has the original equipment been removed and replaced with aftermarket components? If yes, then that would also be helpful to the forum in answering your questions about the wiring harnesses running through that area of the vehicle. In your pic below...the wiring connector you're holding looks a lot like one of the CD changer connectors: https://xoutpost.com/attachments/x5-...n-img_3493.jpg {e38/e39/e46/e53 CD Changer connectors} https://www.picclickimg.com/00/s/MTA...Changer-_1.jpg https://ae01.alicdn.com/kf/HTB1_6EIJ...Xq6xXFXXXI.jpg |
Ah...sorry. I totally forget it. 2000 E53 4.4i

I am going to check it. I am not the first owner of this car. I will check what are supposed to have and install it back if missing. Thanks!

The connector for those wires can be purchased at ECS Tuning.com or any BMW dealer. 61131392246 do a search for this part number The wire has to go on in a certain order so don't just go plugging the wire into the new connector. You have a 50-50 chance of getting it right. Here's my post on fixing the connector. https://xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-forums/...or-fixed.html? |
So far I am 90% to assure that it's the left rear broken wire not the terminal connector itself. I use Power Probe 4 to test the resistance and not responding. While I test the left front one, I can hear sound of clicks like O'clock. Now the problem is how to find the location of broken wires. Even though I removed all cargo area trim panel yesterday and nothing found. I tried to search the whole picture of all ABS wires location but failed.
Anyway, I don't need worry about the ABS module or ECM. And at the very beginning the mechanical told me to sell it because transmission failed. I will update it if I get good news. Or any help from you...Thanks! |
I replaced the terminal connector with new pins and plug socket. Nothing changed. I bought X5 manual book and get the information of ABS sensors in the following.
pin1 pin2 L. Front Red Blue/Red R. Front Yellow Blue/Yellow L. Rear White Blue/White R. Rear Green Blue/Green P.S. just for beginners like me, the pin number (1,2,3) marked in the plug socket. |
