I have chrome shadow so to be frank, I'm not familiar with the trim you speak.

I should not presume, but logically it would have come clearcoated from the factory. Alum oxidizes quick. By sanding it, the CC is dunzo. Even with the best coatings/sealants, that alum. IMO will oxidize in the elements, unless you never plan to drive it ever once you have it cleaned.

At this point, metal polish is the way to go. The bigger ? is how do you plan to protect it once you're done...
