Airbag light, reset? Repair? Replace?
The light was on when I bought the X. No accident but it’s on. If I replace the module with a used one will it work or need to be coded to the car? Anyone tried “Myairbags.com” they claim to reset my module and turn off the light for $49. Any other options? Indy wants $1100 to replace the bag and modules. That ain’t gonna happen...

First buy either software or code reader that will read the SRS system and show the code as to why the light is on. I had a phantom AB light for a while that came and went as it pleased. No fault codes displayed; turned out to be a faulty ignition switch since replaced.
On another occasion my wife took the '01 in to have a window regulator replaced. The idiots switched the ignition on with an AB disconnected and tripped the light. They counted on my wife missing it and it was on when I checked the vehicle later. A quick check with my Peake and a reset rectified the problem. I now have a Foxwell 510 since we added a '13 Xdrive35I to the stable. The scanners pay for themselves in one or two "lights" be they engine or SRS or anything else related. |

Zulu95, I have an NT510 it tells me the code but I couldn’t remember what it was to put in my post.

I should have mentioned the passenger seat sensor apparently is bad. The belt has to be buckled all the time or the seat belt warning alerts.

You're not bugging us, that's what our forum is for. Answering questions to the best of our abilities for new X5 members. Here are some screenshots of the BMW Scanner 1.4 software. You can see all the sensors and faults and disable those you don't want until you can fix them. Keep in mind, disabling faults is not recommended, they are telling you that you are not safe in the event of a crash.

Wow. I had no idea software with that detail was available. I couldn’t do anything like this with my Benz. I guess it’s good I made the switch! I have one of the cables, not sure which one, the other should arrive this week.

Concur with OB that questions are what these forums should be about. I have saved a power of cash over the years thanks to direct answers I received or the results of searches.
Have you tried clearing the codes with the Foxwell to see if they come back? |
