e53 headlights
recently purchased a 2nd hand set of headlights,,. so I can re finish the lenses and I noticed this on them , any one tell me if there supposed to do that or are these toast?
the first one has plenty of free movement , and the 2nd one is more restrictive , but still moves I don't want to sand and polish these lights if there toast https://youtu.be/bks04YAmXFc |
Looks like the adjuster "post" inside has broken.
You might be able to detach the lens and put it on your original headlight. Might require baking. I know I have one here I took off an old headlight I stripped for parts. |
nice, just what I needed to hear :) no way of repairing it ?

Check realoem.com for the headlight parts for an E53 bearing in mind if you have Xenon or Halogen lights. There may be internal parts that have perished. Option 2 (you have little to look) is to heat up the light in your oven (50 to 80 C) to aid in removing the glued sections (if needed) so you can inspect what is causing movement.
I did this for a JDM Toyota many years ago with sucess (disassembly, inspection, repair and reheat to reinstall the plastic lens cover. |
xenon lights on this car. im not going to mess about with baking the headlights, the wife would go ballistic ,
might as well just send them back |

had a really good look at it , the adjuster has popped off the little ball , the adguster is the one directly ontop of the auto level ,
now how to get it back on |
Baking them isn't that big of a deal.
Line the rack with alum foil. Turn on the oven and give it a try. I will mention though, I've never taken apart and E53 light. I've read they are glued together like no other light. Most have had to cut the lense off then re-glue after refurb. Good luck. Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using Tapatalk |

It should be possible to pop the adjuster back on the ball. I used a set of long bent hemostats.
Baking is iffy and year dependent as they changed the adhesive. Baking a set of Toyota headlights is easier the the X5. I have done both and the Toys break apart easily. |
