Looks like the adjuster "post" inside has broken.
You might be able to detach the lens and put it on your original headlight. Might require baking. I know I have one here I took off an old headlight I stripped for parts.

Check realoem.com for the headlight parts for an E53 bearing in mind if you have Xenon or Halogen lights. There may be internal parts that have perished. Option 2 (you have little to look) is to heat up the light in your oven (50 to 80 C) to aid in removing the glued sections (if needed) so you can inspect what is causing movement.
I did this for a JDM Toyota many years ago with sucess (disassembly, inspection, repair and reheat to reinstall the plastic lens cover.

Baking them isn't that big of a deal.
Line the rack with alum foil. Turn on the oven and give it a try. I will mention though, I've never taken apart and E53 light. I've read they are glued together like no other light. Most have had to cut the lense off then re-glue after refurb. Good luck. Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using Tapatalk

It should be possible to pop the adjuster back on the ball. I used a set of long bent hemostats.
Baking is iffy and year dependent as they changed the adhesive. Baking a set of Toyota headlights is easier the the X5. I have done both and the Toys break apart easily.
