No.Bumper dictates it all, kidney is different - regardless of that bumper comment I made.

Would also need new fenders.

Fenders, hood, headlights, front bumper, and grilles are all required I believe.

This was posted back in 2006 by someone who did it so part prices might be a little different!

Technically, a 4.6 body kit was *not* a facelift car (often called LCI). So the answer to the question you've asked is, 'Yes. 4.6 (LCI) bodykit *would* fit a pre-facelift car. Facelifted (also called LCII) headlights would not fit without the referenced mods.'

If the members here are correct that you've made a typo of '4.6' instead of your intended '4.8', the answers are on point.

Ditto Propellerhead...unless it was a misprint in the original post...the 4.6is is a pre-facelift model. So any 4.6is body kit or regular parts picked-off of a 4.6is will swap onto any pre-facelift e53 X5.

The 4.8is is the facelift model.

You can see in the pics below how the headlights are totally different. The facelift has "scalloped" headlights that slide in to the body that is already sculpted for them...whereas the pre-facelift has a removable scalloped trim piece below the headlights. And if you look any images of the front bumpers...you'll see how they are totally different in how the side fender and bumper meet up...especially near the front turn indicators. The facelift kidney grills are also slightly larger thus the opening in the hood is a different size...so the hood won't match up with the front end of the other bumper and headlights:

You can see in PropellerHead's quote below how the front bumper and side fender and headlamps come together in a totally different way which hampers a simple swapping of these parts.

That being said, the trim panel spoken of here is not as obvious to most as the radically different headlights that accompany the face lift vs non. It's pretty obvious on first glance to most enthusiasts.

this car is pre facelift but the kidneys looks like facelift, how come?

They aren't. You can tell because the grille overlaps the hood and sits "on top" of it. The face lift ones sit "inside" the hood openings.

They aren't facelift kidneys.

Look at the ridges in the hood (bonnet) that run forward from the rear corners. On pre-facelifts, these ridges run down either side of the kidney's - on a facelift they terminate on the top edge of the kidneys. The ridges on the facelift hood (bonnet) are different but mainly the facelift kidney's are just bigger.

If you want a facelift car, keep looking for one - converting a pre-facelift to facelift can be very expensive.

Also, there are many other updates (xDrive for one) on facelift (LCI) cars that cannot be retro-fitted to pre-facelift cars.

Look again...you can also tell by the number of slats in the kidney grill that these (in pic above) are pre-facelift kidney grills.

  • The pre facelift grills have 8 thin slats.
  • The facelift grills have 7 thicker slats.
You can go back to post #8 and see the pic of the two different front ends and count the slats for each. :)
