Winshield Seal
 

Just bought a 2005 4.8is. Whistling noise occurs around the windshield at highway speeds. Anyone else hear of this issue? Service advisor told me to bring it in as he has had this problem in the past. Also, having difficulty with bluetooth recognition of my RAZR (Verizon).

Hi there, numerous reports of windshied probs posted here, including myself. Poor seal/contact with windshield and frame, needs to be lifted out and siliconed in place again. Watch out that the autoglass repairman does not chip/crack corners of windshield in the process, make sure the rearview mirror is properly reattached.

What problems are you having with the RAZR ? Mine paired fine, remember to switch the phone's BT connection ON, and use the pairing number provided by BMW.

Our 2001 has developed an ever so slight whistle at highway speeds as well. Nothing a little music can't fix. Will probably get it fixed this spring.

In regards to your razr, search, other's have had this problem.

Have the same problem...the black seal at the base of the windsheild can get warped over time and will allow the wind to cause a whistle. Probably will silicone the piece....better than putting duct tape there....

Had the same problem. Determined that it was the windshield adhesive. Apparently there is a rather prevalent problem with the factory install. My dealer replaced the windshield and the problem has been fixed.

You have to remove the windshield for this?

Yes. Not an easy task as it is glued in place. My dealer simply accepted the fact that they would likely break the windshield getting it out, so a replacement was ordered and installed with the fix.

We've had a whistle, at high highway speeds, since day 1 with our '01. Ours really eminates from the top/leading edge of windshield and is more noticeable on very gusty days, at speed. Stlr said he could "not duplicate it" on several tries, and we gave up. It's long past warr/ext maint now, so we live with it. GL w/any windshield "resetting"; not for the faint of heart or neophyte, imo.

Have you guys tried to just lift up the wipers and let them drop back down? The resting angle of the wipers could be a factor there. If you ever had the windshield replaced, the repair people might have reinstalled the wipers incorrectly. I read a post somewhere (don't remember where, probably on RoadFly) that someone had this whistling noise problem and by picking up the wipers and letting them drop down, the problem was solved :dunno:
