Ditto this. I just did the same thing the other day. I usually leave this feature deactivated...so I just reached down and flipped the switch. It was very helpful in finding the parking space lines to ensure that I could back into the space without "missing the mark". :D
When I was done...I flipped the switch back over to deactivate it.

Like mentioned and pictured above...the instructions to activate/deactivate this feature is in the owners manual...and this feature has had the same engineering design for decades. I can go back to my e32/e34 owners manuals all the way up to my f06...and the instructions are the same in regards to activation/deactivation of this feature: :)

It must have a line or two of code somewhere to allow for it to be switched on and off for left drive as opposed to right drive vehicles.
There was a point not long after we got the X 15+ years ago when BOTH mirrors dipped no matter what the switch settings at the time. After the 18 hours reprogramming or whatever needed to link the new LKM to the vehicle the "double dipping mirrors" reverted to the normal right hand only dipping mirror.

Figuring out what I'm ab to hit is what I use PDC for. Well, that, the camera, and the ultra cool Android feature that shows the actual distance on the screen and MID. I love it!

Very impressive. Is it a function of the camera? Is it accurate within practical levels?

I find the dip function perfectly useless. It literally points at what you just ran over.

I set a preset in my 3 position that is the same as 1 but with both mirrors dipped but about half what the factory design is. Now i can use useful dipped mirrors on demand only when I need and much less wear and tear on the motor.

I keep the selector switch set to passenger side to prevent the useless factory dip.

I find it very useful when you need to parallel park. It tells you how far you are away from the curb. It also aids so that you know when to cut the steering wheel to avoid hitting the curb with the rear tire.

That overlay is from the IBus app and interface. It uses input from the PDC. I never knew it told the distance. I like it a lot.
