BMW e53 on 295/40R20 and 20x11 Style 214 - Squared

So I picked up 2 sets of style 214s and a nice used set of Michelin Latitude Tour tires. I went back and forth on what to go with and finally decided this is best for me. I would have ideally chosen a 285/40 by I refuse to run Runflats if possible to avoid. I know the tires are 0.3" taller than stock but it seemed to be a good compromise for running a squared setup. My question is, has anyone done this setup on the e53?
I did a wheel test fit and it actually bolts up without rubbing the strut. I think a 315 would barely rub the strut depending on tire brand. If not I guess this will be the thread where someone tries. :stickpoke I also bought a tire changer (tired of paying shops to change my tires). It arrives tomorrow. I'll attach some teaser photos. BTW, new to this forum, but not new to BMWs. Looking forward to all comments! |
Edit, I just saw the title lol.
So what size tire did you end up with? I'm running 315's all around on 20x 10.5 and 20x 11.5 Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using Tapatalk |
Square setups on E53 rear wheels (87's and 168's) with 315's work because they are 10.5" wheels AND lower offset than the E70 style 214s, +30 vs. +37. If you were okay running 10mm spacers (maybe even 5mm) you could do the stock sized rear tires all around. Not sure if you would get tire poking out of your front fender though.
Nice imola E39 too. 540 or M5? |

I went with 295/40s. I still have to set my tire machine up so probably won't actually get them on til the weekend, maybe even next. I saw a guy with an e70 do it but couldnt find anyone with an e53 running 295/40s and 11 wide square. Hope it works. I have some various spacers if needed but looks like it will clear as is.
That's my hellrot e36 M (DD). Running squared 9.5 M-pars & 245/35s. Had to work to get those on. My e39 M5 is covered in the garage :D I'm a car and wheel hoarder. |
Nice E36. Rare to see one so well kept. And even rarer with M-pars on it. The perspective of the picture must have thrown me off (and the wheels obviously).
I think you'll clear everything fairly easily with the 295's. Won't have any tire protection on those 214's though so be careful around fast food drive throughs, bank tellers/atms, etc. |

I mean, yeah. Cool E36. But a bright ass red E39 woulda been t!ts. :D |

Agreed! I wanted an imola or japanrot M5 so badly!
I'll keep this updated with my progress on the wheels and tires. If someone has or knows a similar setup, I'd love to see some pics! |

Interesting setup!
I wonder how heavy the handling will be with those wide fronts, especially at low speeds like when parking ? |
